DEATH: Terry Anderson, Radio Host Champion of Black Americans Against Unfair Immigrant Competition
NumbersUSA ^ | July 7, 2010 | Roy Beck

Posted on 07/08/2010 12:43:43 PM PDT by AuntB

Terry Anderson, who called himself the Prisoner of South Central (Los Angeles) died earlier today, and the silence is already deafening.

For more than a decade, Terry had broadcast his loud and angry Sunday night radio show from Los Angeles under the motto of:

"Articulating The Popular Rage"

His constant tag-line was:

"If You Ain't Mad, You Ain't Payin' Attention"

When blue-collar Black Americans across the nation began to lose control of their neighborhoods, their occupations, their schools and their livelihoods because of immigration during the 1990s, Terry -- above all others -- refused to be silent.

For more than 15 years, nobody has been a more outspoken champion of the cause of Black Americans against the unfair competition of immigration.

A BIG MAN IN OVERALLS WITH A VOICE & MESSAGE TO MATCH

Terry's anger at what immigration had done to the historic Black neighborhoods of South Central L.A. pushed him onto stages across California and eventually across America. Usually proudly wearing overalls and doing nothing to disguise his small business and auto mechanic livelihood, Terry became one of the most popular orators in the movement to protect U.S. workers from illegal immigration.

Sadly, few of the traditional civil rights leaders -- Black or White -- have said a word in defense of Black Americans when it comes to immigration. Most of them have decided that the pain inflicted disproportionately on Black Americans is acceptable because immigration provides the leaders with other benefits. That is what made Terry's work so important and so courageous -- and so unique.

(Be sure to look at a short passionate interview of Terry that we used in one of our versions of the Chart & Gumballs video that we produced in the late 1990s.)

As far as I know, Terry had led a rather provincial life until immigration began to totally overwhelm his neighborhood. But he soon was seeing America. I first met him on the set of a cable TV show in Washington DC. It was his first time to see the nation's Capital. When taping was over late in the evening, I had the great privilege of driving Terry around all the lighted monuments of DC as the night tour evoked emotional patriotic expressions from him at the first-time sighting of each landmark.

Terry loved America, even when parts of America (including, sadly, some people who agree with the need to reduce immigration) still didn't see Black Americans as equally deserving and equally important parts of our national community. Terry always made those of us White Americans in the movement feel that he believed we cared as much about the Black victims in his Black neighborhood as we cared about White victims. And because of that, I sense that he created a lot more real and heart-felt concern throughout the movement for the disproportionate victimization of Black Americans by our nation's immigration policies.

MANY HEROES DIE BEFORE SEEING THE POSSIBILITY OF VICTORY DURING LONG BATTLES FOR CHANGE

Terry becomes the latest of a long list of grassroots patriots who selflessly devoted large amounts of their time and resources to this cause and have died without seeing a truly hopeful sign that the nation can be saved from the promiscuous immigration policies of the last 45 years.

He fought to the end in the hope that we might one day return to traditional levels of immigration and the rule of law in protecting the most vulnerable of Americans. But he died while the trajectory of his California continues to be abysmal deterioration.

Those of us who continue to live can honor Terry and all the other fallen patriots of the immigration-reduction movement by refusing to allow the status quo immigration policies to exist indefinitely. At some point, patriots in our numbers will begin to die with real evidence that the long, long effort for change will prevail before much of what we hold dear in our country is devastated.

If Terry couldn't live to see the victory, let's hope that at least those of us who knew Terry and were inspired by him will live to see it -- and without having to set any longevity records!

At this moment, though, Terry, I AM mad and I AM paying attention to the fact that our federal government is working even more vigorously to hurt Black Americans through its immigration policies than when you and I threw ourselves into this fight.

You know that I and NumbersUSA have always given special attention to the special threats immigration poses to Black Americans. You heard me express these concerns numerous times when we spoke from the same platforms, and we will speak even more forcefully now to attempt to compensate for the loss of your voice. And I know that although your special concern was for Black victims, your activism was for Americans of all races.

We've all lost a great advocate.

I apologize for not addressing Terry Anderson’s passing first.

I didn’t pay close enough attention to the title, and was shocked to note other people’s comments.

Has he been ill for some time? I wasn’t aware he was close to death and am so sorry to hear of it.

Terry was a great guy. I met him a number of times at the Jeffer’s in La Canada, California.

He was a mild mannered man who was moved to take up the Conservative cause in opposition to leftists run amok. He was a good speaker, sort of an everyman type of demeanor.

He was a class act, and I’m so sorry to hear about his passing. His family will miss him greatly, and so will I.

” Who will take his place?”

I can’t even imagine. Terry had great natural talent to go along with his great common sense. He was truly ‘the spokesman for the popular rage’.

Terry mentioned sometime in the last month that he was being treated by a doctor and he was absent for his last two shows. But he didn’t let on just how ill he was.

“Sunday night void.”

Boy that’s a fact. I hope somebody tries to keep the show alive. Maybe Chuck Wilder could, he took over George’s show when he passed away.

The problem is, like you said, Terry can’t be replaced he can only be followed. Maybe someone will surprise us and rise to the occasion just like Terry did.

Heard about this on local Denver radio show host Peter Boyles’ show this morning. He and Terry were friends. He was pretty upset by it.

Terry Anderson, R.I.P. [Mark Krikorian]

Gregory Kane’s Examiner column today quotes L.A. low-immigration crusader Terry Anderson bemoaning the effect of mass immigration on the schooling of black American kids. Ironically, Anderson died yesterday morning, reducing the already-small cohort of black Americans willing to publicly criticize current immigration policy (some other members of that tiny fraternity are here, here, here, and here). His motto was “If You Ain’t Mad, You Ain’t Payin’ Attention!” but his anger never sounded fringy or hateful.

The problem is not that ordinary black citizens favor open borders; see this poll, for instance, where they are clearly for enforcement and less immigration. At a conference of Urban League officials where I spoke a few years ago, one of the attendees (who did not agree with me on immigration) said everyone knew that if a black talk-radio show touched on immigration, the callers would be overwhelmingly critical and demand enforcement.

Rather, the black political leadership is almost uniformly for open borders as part of their coalition with Hispanic lawmakers, denouncing any critique of immigration as necessarily racist; only a handful of members of the Black Caucus have immigration grades above F. (Artur Davis has a recent grade of B-, but that’s because he was running for governor of Alabama.) When a black political figure takes up as his signature issue a reasoned, knowledgeable, sober, unapologetic critique of mass immigration, not only will he succeed politically, but the issue as a whole will take a huge step toward victory.

The Death of a Truly Distinctive Patriot
Jack Cashill
I just received the sad news that the inimitable Terry Anderson, the beloved “Prisoner of South Central,” has died of liver and pancreatic cancer. There was no one quite like him. I met Anderson a few years ago at a radio studio in Glendale, California. He hosted a Sunday night show that focused on one subject: illegal immigration. When he started, the experts told him a one-subject show would never last. That was more than ten years ago.

Anderson was one of those fascinating California hybrids. Although black in language and culture, he had more than a little Cherokee in the veins. This multiracial mix may be what gave him a clearer perspective on race in California than most of his peers. The day I met him he had just come from a rally of African Americans against illegal immigration in South Central LA’s Leimert Park. In attendance, in addition to Anderson, were the Black Minuteman and the Mothers Against Illegal Immigration. “The anger was unbelievable,” Anderson told me, and I did not doubt him. Some of that anger derived from the fact that the media refused to acknowledge black concerns about illegal immigration and their resistance to the same.

As Anderson explained, blacks and browns tend to meet at the roughest edge of their respective colliding plates — the streets, the schools, and the prisons, and sometimes those edges blur. This is a conflict that the media in California and elsewhere do not want the public to know about that Anderson was intent on exposing. But Anderson’s concerns went beyond South Central. He cared deeply about the well being of the country writ large. “If You Ain’t Mad, You Ain’t Payin’ Attention!” said Anderson. To the end, he stayed mad, but mad in a good way, mad enough to take on forces much more powerful than he, mad enough to believe that America was worth fighting for. Sunday nights in LA will never be the same. Messages and cards may be sent to 12400 Ventura Blvd. #643, Studio City, CA 91604.

From D. A. King, Terry's friend. http://www.thedustininmansociety.org/blog/

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we must tell you our dear friend Terry Anderson is gone. Terry died yesterday in California.

Terry was the definition of the term “great American” and as brave a man as I have ever met. Besides a role model for me personally , Terry was a personal friend and confidant. Terry loved his country.

There will never be another like him and it is America’s loss that he is no longer with us. Rest in peace Terry. We will take it from here. We are angry, and we are paying attention. Thanks to you.

Our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Terry’s wife - and our freind -Mel and his entire family.

Please read our friend Roy Beck’s short salute to Terry HERE. More later. When I dry my eyes. dak

Good articles:

TRIBUTE TO IMMIGRATION’S TERRY ANDERSON

http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty54.htm

[snip]I shared the podium with Anderson that night and I shrank back from his intensity. He wears overhauls with a plaid shirt most of the time. Silver streaks pepper his black hair on a commanding frame. He’s not somebody you want to pick a fight with, physically or verbally. He’s quick as a cat with his verbal courage.

On April 20, 2005, 60 Minutes featured Terry Anderson as one of the most outspoken Americans to expose the illegal alien invasion. The moderator told Anderson that illegal aliens worked jobs that janitors wouldn’t do any more in California. Anderson replied, “Yeah, they used to work for $11.00 an hour and it would be $15.00 an hour now, but illegals work those same jobs for $5.00 an hour. It’s not a livable wage. That’s what Bush is doing to America’s poor with his mindless chant about them not wanting to do those jobs.”
The camera returned to Terry Anderson behind his microphone in his studio where he described the devastation to his friends in Los Angeles. That city is now in the hands of Mexicans with over two million illegals overwhelming the city. Already, high school race riots among blacks and Mexicans are common. The school atmosphere is one of ethnic violence growing by the day. You can see illegal aliens proudly displaying back car window stickers that read, “F**K YOU! THIS IS MEXICO!” These are not people coming to America to invest in the American Dream. Given enough time and numbers, they will branch out and destroy the American Dream for all Americans no matter what their color. It’s called Third World Momentum. It’s manifesting like a cancer in America with drugs, crime, violence, educational chaos and lawlessness imbedded at all levels.

The guests Anderson features on his shows every Sunday night mark the “Who’s Who” of Black, Hispanic, Asian and White Americans that combat this invasion across America. Anyone who wants to donate to his station or find out more about him can visit his web site at www.theterryandersonshow.com.

When he looks into the camera, he carries the passion and determination of Dr. King, Ezola Foster, Rosa Parks, Barbara Jordan, the Buffalo Soldiers and a host of other Americans who will not go quietly into the night.

Selling out black Americans

It’s both libel and lie, but it’s repeated again and again by immigration lobbyists. Be they liberals, libertarians or plain la Raza racists, they all say the same: illegal aliens only take the jobs Americans refuse to do.

The nation’s elites are forever singing hymns to illegal aliens for allegedly rescuing Americans from sloth. Terry Anderson does not. His testimony in 1999 to the Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims ought to have made Congress sing a different tune. Sadly, it didn’t. [snip]

I regret having never met him!

One of his earlier articles:

African-Americans drowning in wave of illegal immigration
By TERRY ANDERSON

Published Jan. 31, 2003, in the Houston Chronicle

THE black community has made great strides in the last few decades. Racism has certainly not been eradicated, but it is no longer accepted with a wink and a nod as it once was. We are proud to see Secretary of State Colin Powell, even when we do not agree with everything he does. The same with Condoleezza Rice, the president’s national security adviser, and many others.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that in some regions we black folks are so overwhelmed by the huge numbers of immigrants that we are being displaced in our schools, jobs and neighborhoods.

That may seem a harsh thing for a black person to say against brown people, but I don’t see it that way. I am an American, proud of both my nation and my race. What I see in my community of South Central Los Angeles — where I have lived nearly all my life — is thousands of Mexicans who care nothing about our traditions and culture, and only want to impose their way on us. That’s not immigration, that is invasion.

It is sad what has happened in my neighborhood. This was a respectable, blue-collar area of hard-working black folks living in their bungalows and going to their jobs. In just a couple decades it has become almost entirely Mexican. They live several families to a three-bedroom house and keep chickens in the yard, but the city doesn’t care about the zoning violations or the noise of having so many crowded into a small space.

According to the Census Bureau, nearby Watts is now 60 percent Hispanic, and it was previously the black community on the West Coast. No longer.

The immigration situation is really hard on our young people. A 17-year-old kid on my street couldn’t get a job at McDonald’s because he didn’t speak Spanish. Another young neighbor boy was thrown into a bilingual classroom at age 8 and was forced to listen to Spanish all day long. His six-hour school day was turned into three hours. When his mother asked for an English-only class, she was told “there are none.”

Would you believe that I, a black man, have been called a racist many times for speaking up against this invasion? I have a radio program on the subject and therefore hear from a lot of people, even some in Mexico.

When they call me a racist, I put this question to them: What if a hundred thousand Vietnamese were suddenly dropped into Guadalajara? And what if those newcomers didn’t speak Spanish, and further insisted that their children be taught in Vietnamese? What would you think if they were happy to work for half the normal wages for any job they could get, thereby putting thousands of your local Guadalajarans out of work? Would it be racist to say there was a problem?

When people of good will and good sense hear the situation put that way, nearly all understand and respect my viewpoint.

Now if only they would listen in Washington. America’s political leaders are the problem. They have been selling out this great nation for real and imaginary political benefits while ignoring the dangers. Even after Sept. 11, nothing has been done to plug up our borders. Another terrorist attack could be 10 times worse, and it would likely happen because Congress and the president learned nothing about the need to keep the nation’s borders secure.

If I sound angry, you hear right. Like other Americans, I want immigration to be legal, controlled and reduced. But as a black American, I see that the burden my people must carry is heavier than for many others. I am sure that if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., were alive, he would understand the fundamental unfairness to the black community of allowing more immigration than the nation can handle.
