Unfortunately, the precedent for this comes from a ‘nominally’ Republican President - GHWB’s response to the Rodney King riots was to re-try the officers under federal Civil Rights Statutes, after the local courts didn’t give the ‘desired’ result.....

No offense but it goes back even further.

The first case I can personally recall was between 1970 and 1973, when Nixon would have been POTUS (I had my 1970 Ford Torino).

It happened down South. Some white got off on murder charges of a black and the Feds stepped in. They charged, arrested, and retired him for 'civil rights violations'. I was screaming in my car, DOUBLE JEOPARDY! DOUBLE JEOPARDY!

But the Feds got their conviction, to 'set things right'. And the die was cast(1)

(1) It may go even further back to the 60's and Klan arrests by the Feds. But those I can't personally recall, not living in the south. The other one I heard of went 'national'.
