U.S. Carrier Leave Port in Japan to Join the Exercise in Yellow Sea

Despite the Chinese government's public objection to joint S. Korea-U.S. exercise in Yellow Sea, aircraft carrier USS George Washington from U.S. Seventh Fleet left Yokosuka Naval Base in Kanagawa Prefecture around 9:40 am, July 9th, according to Kyodo News.
Quoting a U.S. Navy source, it reported, "USS George Washington will participate in joint exercise with S. Korean Navy due to start in Yellow Sea, and then conduct its patrol mission in the Western Pacific for a few months." The carrier had returned to the home port at Yokosuka for three days of R&R for crews.

no, no!
One ping only!
Actually I hope this carrier group is on a really high state of alert as it transits the Yellow Sea.

My nephew is in the Army stationed in Korea. About 2 weeks ago, he phoned home and told his mother a buddy of his was shot dead while patroling on the border with North Korea. My nephew was with him at the time. He was not allowed to say "what happened," only that "it happened" (makes no sense to me either). He was very shaken and upset. Since the original phone call, he has not been allowed to speak of it at all. This happened right before Petreaus was appointed. It was made clear to him the Army wants absolutely NOTHING to happen in that area to stir things up.
I kept waiting for the incident to be reported in the media, but nothing. It's hard to believe something like this could be hushed up. The man had a wife and small kids.

I’ve heard stories like that before, but never from another FReeper. Sadly, I think it is all too possible.

SONOBUOY PING!
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

I know that sort of thing happened in the late seventies when I was in the Navy. I know two soldiers were
killed in the DMZ and IIRC an Army helo was shot down, with casualties. Those are the incidents that I am aware of. I think President Ford's response to the axe murders was a good one, but I might be a bit prejudiced as I was in an aggressive stance offshore drinking coffee.
It strikes me as very possible that something happened in the DMZ lately and the MINC is typically doing nothing and covering up, but the family isn't under any orders to keep quiet. I would think something would show up in the blogosphere.
