HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Local and federal investigators were at a northwest Houston home Friday night where an explosion sent a woman to the hospital.
The woman was opening a package left at her doorstep in the 2100 block of Seamist Court Friday evening. She had found the shoe-sized box in front of her home about a day ago but didn't decide to open it until around 6:30pm Friday.

The woman was transported to Northwest Memorial Hospital with facial injuries that are not life-threatening.
Officials with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as the Houston Police Department's homicide and bomb squad were at the scene investigating.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the house was targeted, however, Eyewitness News found out the home is owned by an oil company executive.

I think sometimes it’s a matter of being in shock, or denial of some sort - as far as opening a package you suspect may have something wrong with it.
I had an incident where a bunch of teens threw (what the policeman called) a crude “pipe bomb” onto my lawn. As the policeman said - they didn’t make it right though (thank God). Anyway, stupid me, I happen to be looking out the front window, see them drive by and throw the thing, and I see and hear what sounds like several firecrackers going off at once. There is a little smoke, but it’s not a big thing...
Ready for the idiotic part? I went and picked it up to see what the heck it was (instead of calling the police first). I had it in my hand when I was talking to the 911 operator and he yelled at me to throw it the heck back outside - just in case... It didn’t even occur to me that I was holding something that might not be “done” exploding until the 911 operator yelled at me, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I don’t think I’ve ever moved as fast as I did running to the front door to throw it back outside! LOL
I knew/know better than to pick up something like that, but I think I was in shock, really... Just not thinking at all - except about who the young men who threw it in my lawn were, and wondering why (I was working on a political campaign at the time, but I don’t think it had anything to do with that).
Anyway, I could see myself opening a package like this woman did. However, it’s strange that she kept it in her house without opening it, and then decided to outside. If she had that long to think about it, and she was obviously worried, then I don’t know why she chose to open it herself... She probably thought she was just being paranoid or something.
I hope her recovery is quick with minimal scarring. I’m glad she wasn’t hurt worse.
I also hope they find out who in the heck did this, and why... I’d say it’s likely this was a targeted attack - either personal, or related to her husband’s(?) job.
Fact is, it's often somewhere in between. And much of many investigations is not figuring out who did it...that might be figured out quickly...it's how to compile enough admissible evidence to get a conviction in court.

Tensleep covers life on the rig, and you can see some of the tensions between toolpusher and company man like what reportedly came into play in the Macondo (Deepwater Horizon) incident. A Fall in Denver peeks into the world of exploration companies back in the day.

‘Domestic Terrorism’ with a Green Twist? Oh my.
Back when I was in high school, several of us went to a BBQ and the first of the three cars hit an armadillo on the way home. The second car (which I was in) stopped and picked it up. We met at the HS parking lot and carpooled to the event.
We decided to toss the “dead’ armadillo into a school bus. Never even looked which one it was, but the aradillo had just been stuned. It had crawled behind the tool box which was under the last seat for a nap. There was a chubby gal who thought that seat belonged to her.
As we were getting close to the HS, we had a rough railroad track to cross. As the bus was crossing the tracks, the armadillo must have had enough. It came out right between her legs and started running up the isle. She let out a blood curdling yell and pe’ed herself. Not ONE of us ever said a word for years.
Yeah...assigning 150 personnel, conducting one of the most expensive investigations in the history of the FBI, and offering a $1,000,000 reward show a definite lack of concern. <sarc>
