John McCain ditches his liberal past and turns hard right
The Observer ^ | Sunday 11 July 2010 | Paul Harris

The Republican 'maverick' bends in the wind of Tea Party-style politics

When does being a maverick turn into a shameless flip-flopper? Pretty much about now, according to many observers of the long and storied political career of former Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Senator McCain, pictured, is now caught in one of the toughest political fights of his life, facing off in a primary fight against the Tea Party-style challenger JD Hayworth. And he is doing it in Arizona, which has just passed a strict anti-illegal immigrant law so controversial the White House is taking it to court.

All this means that McCain's traditionally liberal attitudes to immigration reform were always likely to take a bit of a hit. But few people can have predicted just how far McCain would go in rowing away from the previous positions that won him praise as recently as 2007 when he co-sponsored reform legislation with famed liberal Senator Ted Kennedy.

Retire, John, before someone does a poster of you with syrup all over because you flop like a pancake, and waffle as well.

Thanks for your lifetime of service, Senator McCain. It’s time to take a rest.

"No amnesty," he told a Tucson radio station, adding: "Many of them need to be sent back."

More MSM lies and spin. The "many" that he claimed need to be sent back are the ones that have committed serious crimes. He put that at 17% of illegals. He said nothing about sending the other 83% back.

Hardly a big change in position. IIRC he has always been for sending criminals back.

Some days it is hard to decide who I cant stand more: RINOs or the MSM, but most days I'm sure it's the criminal media.

He ditches his severe leftist vent every six years. Can anyone figure out why? This has sure seemed to stump the Republican party and the nation’s media outlets.

Isn’t it strange that Senate terms are about as far between as John’s stints at being a Conservative for about six months.

I’m sure there’s no connection. Go figure...

And he is doing it in Arizona, which has just passed a strict anti-illegal immigrant law so controversial which made so much common sense the White House is taking it to court.

Crying out for a fix.

It's okay, this thread wasn't started by Rabscuttle in order to do that so Ron Paul can climb .001% in the polls.

:-)

In the 2008 campaign, the term "maverick" was used prominently. Perhaps it should be replaced with "just another rightwing politician".

No. If he was right wing, he would have won.

Coalicion de Derechos Humanos (SEE: http://www.kold.com/Global/story.asp?S=12771195 ) says that since they started counting not too long ago 2,000 dead bodies have turned up in the border area ~ which is mostly open country!

Could be McCain finally paid attention to the evidence that the border is presently an open running sewer filled with dopers, dope and murderers.

No reason to take any stuff from any of the Leftwingtards about this. They are clearly all very sociopathic and have absolutely no sympathy for the people who are getting killed every day while Obama continues to dither.

When you elect a Chicago thug to political office this is what you're going to get every single time.

BTW, how is Jim Deakin doing, with his run for the same seat? I like, both, Jim Deakin and J.D. Hayworth. All of these political races, at every political level, where there’s more than one conservative running for the same political office, and non-leftist voters can, only, choose one non-leftist candidate for each race. In some ways, it’s a real shame, but in others, it’s a very good situation.
