IIRC, a couple of weeks ago, someone stabbed a football player in the neck. It’s far, far from over.

I also read that an IED went off on a bridge a couple of days ago, just missing either a police patrol or british army patrol. It ain’t over until the British leave, unfortunately.

I’m sorry, I disagree with you. I think it’s well past due for the British to leave. They have been in Ireland for way too long :)

When I was there after the ‘cease fire’ some years ago.....the locals told me that there would NEVER be an end to ‘The Troubles’...and never believe the media.

“peaceful Protestant parades”

Are these the antagonistic marches by the “Orangemen” gloating about their ancestors kicking Catholic ass over 400 years ago? Yeah, that sounds peaceful—and productive. Is a war their ancestors won 400 years ago all they have to be proud of? Turn the channel on the Pub telly to the news sometime—the Catholics aren’t the enemy anymore. Psssst, it’s the Moors!

Utterly silly - Doesn’t have a damned thing to do with the Christian religion, either Catholic or Protestant.

An American tourist went into a pub near Belfast. After a while one of the locals went up to the American and asked him “Are you a Protestant or a Catholic?” The American replied “I am a Jew.” The locan man asked “Are you a Protestant Jew or a Catholic Jew?”

“dominated by peaceful Protestant parades”

B.S.

There’s no such thing.

You’re right-When the Provo’s have the “field” all to themselves is when you’ll really see the fur fly. Sometimes the best way to destroy one’s enemy is to give them exactly what they want.

Hmmmm....Why now? Why would someone want to stir up trouble at this point...?

Was the Soccer player Northern Irish? Catholic? Was he on a mixed Protestant/Catholic team?

The IED was obviously an [”Catholic”] extremist response directed at the Brits, who are “authority figures.” But, anyone who believes that if the Brits simply “withdraw” that peace will come is BEYOND naive. More likely, what would follow is one of the largest massacres of Protestants since the Middle Ages. If not in the immediate, direct sense, then in the form of a slow, low intensity civil conflict carried out for years against the minority Proitestant population to FORCE them to leave Ireland entirely — or die.

But, why now? I thought Paisley and what’s his name from SInn Fein had worked out peace accords and set up a governing arrangement that had brought stability and “peace” — or at least “co-existence?” Who had something to gain by creating havoc and destablizing the accords?
