Obama's DREAM for illegals a nightmare?
WND ^ | 7/12/2010 | Chelsea Schilling

Now that the Obama administration has said it "absolutely supports" a controversial plan to give as many as 2 million illegal aliens legal status in the U.S., a group funded by the U.S. Census Bureau, George Soros' Open Society Institute and various other organizations is seeking to renew the spotlight on the DREAM Act.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, was introduced in March 2009 by Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif. Durbin is sponsoring S.729 in the Senate with 40 co-sponsors, and Howard is sponsoring H.R.1751 in the House with 124 co-sponsors.

According to key provisions of the DREAM Act, the legislation would extend conditional legal status to allow children of illegal aliens to work and go to school in the U.S.

But critics say the DREAM Act is just another "specialized amnesty proposal."

According to the Migration Policy Institute analysis, more than 2.1 million illegal aliens meet the age, duration of residency and age at arrival requirements for conditional status under the DREAM Act.

To qualify under the DREAM Act provisions, the illegal aliens must have:

-entered the U.S. before age 16

-have been in the U.S. for at least five years before enactment of the legislation

-have obtained a high-school diploma or GED.

-be less than 35 years old

The proponents of the legislation are going to try to argue that the "children of illegals who came here shouldn't be punished", etc. But isn't every illegal who meets the last two requirements, going to claim that, "Yeah sure, I came here before I was 16, and I've been here more than five years", regardless of whether it's true or not?

And how would we disprove it? And aren't Dems in Fed agencies, who have an incentive to make as many of these individuals legal citizens going to give them as much leeway as possible (if they even check the requirements in the first place)?

So what if he can’t get amnesty for them all right now, at least he can get it for those in the age demographic that still strongly supports him. Great.

The numbers in are amazing and unbelievable. Supposedly "only" 825,000 of the 2.1 "potential beneficiaries" might participate. Right. You are giving away, in effect, free money. You are GOING TO HAVE MORE DEMAND, NOT LESS. And in addition, once legalized, these people can 1) bring in all their relatives and 2) move to legalize their illegal relatives already here.

And notice that this bill to "help high school students" applies to illegal immigrants UP TO THE AGE OF 35. There will be several million 25-24 year old illegals claiming they were brought here as children.

The amnestoids are now thinking maybe they will enact this, because actually passing their amnesty bill is receding into the far distance. They have now decided to enact amnesty by 1,000 cuts, rather than try to get their "comprehensive" bill.

Sort of irrelevant - the FEDS determine how they will or will not enforce the laws on the books - e.g. going after AZ for daring to take enforcement of Immigration laws into their own hands, after zer0 (and Holder/Napolitano) have stated the Feds have no intentions of enforcing immigration laws.

Keep AZ Safe

Amnesty should come with a 5-year period where the one granted amnesty, and his immediate family, can not vote. =.=

Voter registration does not verify citizenship.

“Are you a citizen of the USA?”

“Si!”

“And you will sign under penalty of perjury?”

“Si!”

There you go!

And who will clean the voter rolls? Not the DOJ!

And with same day registration in some states, there won’t be a way to clean the voter rolls in time.

Great points.

“...And notice that this bill to “help high school students”...

That’s the other sham piece of this legislation. The Dems want to frame this as as positive thing- giving incentives for “people to go back to high school and be educated.” Unfortunately, as we’ve learned from countless examples, the idea of education in many of these schools is not the “3 R’s”, but the “1R”: Reconquista.

If they prove they have been here illegally for 5 years they should be arrested and deported. Period.
Democrats are running out of dumb ass voters and need to replenish the ranks.

Great income potential for immigration attorneys.

Look on the bright side: the Citizenship test will expose applicants to the Constitution.

Those who become tax-paying US citizens - will vote conservative - pronto!!!!

This DREAM act should be rejected because it provides very strong incentives for parents to break the law. The DREAM act we need: Deport, Remove, Eliminate Alien Minors.

The central reason why the issue of amnesty, which was also brought up under the Bush adminstration, creates such anger and political outcry can be summed up in one word: votes. Being both the Repubs and Dems are vying for hispanic votes; therefore, the issue of amnesty is inherently political. As such, to counter the political nature of amnesty or the issue of amnesty, make it so that those who are given amnesty, to include their immediate families who are also covered under amnesty, should have their voting rights abolished for a period of 5 years (the number of years is debatable but it should be for an extended period of time so as to remove the POLITICAL nature --- votes --- of amnesty).

This: “The DREAM act we need: Deport, Remove, Eliminate Alien Minors.”

The issue of 0dumbo’s DREAM act is not citizenship, they won’t be citizens, just legal immigrants, for now
BUT these illegals will take money and places at colleges away from real Americans.
This must not be allowed.
It will ease the way for citizenship.
NO
Instead we must Deport, Remove, Eliminate Alien Minors.

and anchor babies too

I think almost 70% of the population of most latin american countries are under 35. Also, this is the demographic that is most likely to vote democrat. What a coincidence.

Seems if they are 35 and working, that could be used as proof of illegal entry and TAX-EVASION.

“Look on the bright side: the Citizenship test will expose applicants to the Constitution.”

BHO was exposed to the Constitution in law school. I rest my case.

“Those who become tax-paying US citizens - will vote conservative - pronto!!!!”

I’m pretty sure that GED-level jobs will not see high taxes during BHO’s reign. And Fed union workers make great salaries these days- are they conservatives?

I have been doing my own amateur research on this issue since I was at a Hispanic festival several years ago and saw a voter registration table signing up voters from a grouping that was mostly illegal aliens.

I watched these registrar workers just give the forms to the people who were being rounded up by La Raza and SEIU types. They were told to check off the “US Citizen?” block, often unable to speak English, and the registrars made no attempt to verify citizenship.

I asked these registrars later about getting proof of citizenship, even a driver’s license (which is NOT a valid proof) and was told they never check. I’ve been to numerous like festivals and mall registration tables since then and saw the same story - just check the block and sign and no questions will be asked. Democrats love it and Republicans are afraid to complain lest they be called racist.

You will see similar registration cheating going on at the DMV thanks to motor-voter laws. Just fill out the form on the back of the license application or renewal form and you’re a voter!

Illegal aliens are already a huge voting block and have resulted in election victories for Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), Al Franken (D-MN), and Jim Webb (D-VA), the latter victory the one that flipped the Senate over to the Democrats in 2006.
