Of course they gave him a hard time about going to Crawford because they hated the assignment of going there to cover him. It wasn’t a cool place where they could party down a la Martha’s Vineyard, for instance.

Dear Friend,
Join CODEPINK Maine to greet the POTUS as he vacations this weekend on Mt. Desert Island in Maine!
President Obama recently asked Congress to send $33 billion dollars to Afghanistan even after we've learned that large amounts of US money are being funneled to Afghan warlords and corrupt officials. How can President Obama ask Congress to throw $33 billion at a mistake when millions of Americans are losing their homes, their jobs, and their security?
A peaceful PINK presence will bring these urgent matters to the President's attention!
On Saturday July 17 at 6pm we will meet up in front of the main entrance to the College of the Atlantic (Amy Goodman's alma mater!). COA is located in Bar Harbor on Mt. Desert Island, along Route 1 / Route 3 (map here).
We will hold the Bring Our War $$ Home banner and other signs calling on the President to fund human needs rather than escalating the Afghanistan war. PINK aprons and war pies with a whopping 54% slice for the military will show thousands of tourists passing by that Maine does not support the President's request for more war spending, a bill currently stalled in Congress.
Pressure on Maine's two representatives in the House helped them find the courage to vote against the war supplemental bill. Let's get out there and show Rep. Pingree and Rep. Michaud that they did the right thing!
Many of us will be carpooling to Bar Harbor from Hallowell, Maine where we are marching in the Old Hallowell Days Parade the morning of Sat. July 17. Meet up starting at 9:15am for a parade that begins at 10am on Route 201 through downtown. Get PINK and bring your signs and banners! We will lunch after the parade and then caravan to Bar Harbor.
Other opportunities to protest President Obama will be as he arrives at Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport on Fri., July 16 at around 11:45am and departs on Sun. July 18 at around 10:20am.
For more information about any of this weekend's events contact CODEPINK Maine Local Coordinator Lisa at 207-643-2356 or 207-399-7623 (day of event number). I hope to see you there!
This President doesn't make choices to benefit anybody other than himself.
When it comes to the impact on tourists and tourism in the area, he doesn't care!
After all, "I won."
She was wearing white slacks with that white black blotches blouse..didn’t look like a dress to me at least not what I saw on tv.
Clinton often abused his status.
Remember when he shut down LAX...for a haircut?
On fund-raising trips, he would also often arrive and motorcade through cities at the rush hour -- maximizing the inconvenience (and expense) to the residents.
But, then, Clinton didn't take a vaction every-other-week, either.
Reportedly, Bush was very careful about his trip plans -- trying to cause minimal disruption. Plus, it's a virtual impossibility to create a traffic jam in Crawford, TX.
There are those of us who fight like hell to try and change things up here.
Please do not paint Maine with a broad brush.
I dislike those two senators and did not vote for them.
I don’t want the Obamas up here, and lots of other folks don’t either.
Exactly my thought!
Unfortunately, I am in Bar Harbor this week. The rumor has it that entire parts of Acadia National Park will be shut down tomorrow and Saturday. This does not make me happy as we had hikes planned for the weekend. Then again, when the King comes, us lowely subjects must simply bow.
As for the reaction here, it has been mixed. On the one hand this guy is huge up here and the hero worship has already started. On the other hand one does hear the business owners grumbling that this guy is going to disrupt everything. All in all, however, this is Obama land and the guy can do no wrong.
Its Bush’s fault.
Interesting that they chose Maine to vacation. Just seems kind of odd state to visit.
No, not at all odd. It's a Somali gateway.
Can’t they call they Pay Czar dude and bill the government for lost income? /s
