No kidding, I was there, and I remember how the elites sneered at Ronald Reagan, said he could never win, too extreme, a nut case, a cowboy. And not a serious thinker. All talk and no substance. Wouldn’t be able to hold his own in a debate past the first few sound bites. All summer and fall, the media thought election day 1980 would be close. (It wasn’t.)

The parallels this time are obvious. Who has that photo of Ron toasting Sarah?

People should read the book “Rendezvous with Destiny” about the 1980 campaign to understand how uncertain Reagan’s nomination and election were. It wasn’t until the final weekend before the election that public sentiment swung decisively in Reagan’s favor.

Also remember that the revelation of W’s DUI in the last weekend probably cost him the pop. vote and nearly cost him the election in ‘00.

Reagan destroyed Carter in the 1980 debate by asking the American public one question.

“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

Carter was toast after that.

I remember reading Dr. Sowell describing that there was celebration in the Carter Whitehouse when Ronald Reagan was nominated.

History doesn’t necessarily repeats itself but it sure does rhyme!

True. But in Reagan's "American Life" (I think) he recounts actually having a few drinks with Tip Oneil and of a mutual respect, and mutual love of country.

The sob's in Congress and the WH now loathe Palin and hate Americans who respect her.

60 million idiots felt the same way in 2008.

Maybe history rhymes, but it's out of tune this time.

Reagan was THE classic rock, Palin is an 80s tribute band, and the Dems play moronic gangsta rap.

Now elections have become an MTV awards show, and the morons have the mike.

Will a conservative ever be voted into the White House again? It may no longer be possible.

One thing thinking about President Reagan and his inauguration speech is how the elitists don’t help, they hinder us. What needs to be done is get word out that elitists need not apply for important positions in the government but instead, ordinary people should be put in charge.

The One is ivy league educated but he doesn’t know WTF he is doing ! The Clinton’s were Yale educated. We need to get people who are outside the Eastern Establishment to be put in charge. These Easterners need to be removed. Thy have done us no good over the years and time for something new and different.

D@mn I remember reading that article. I also remember the subsequent @ss whipping Carter got. And the way Frank Reynolds of ABC called the election for Regan. It looks like...it is......a Regan Landslide. What a closet leftest Reynolds was.

Thirty years ago in April, Jimmy Carter was famously "attacked" by a swamp rabbit while fishing in Georgia. Although the bizarre incident created a huge media stir, when we looked back, we didn't find any Whispers coverage of the rabbit incident.

US News: thirty years of not covering anything that would embarass a Democrat.
