Thanks- You sold me on the Blu-Ray Robin Hood with Errol Flynn!
My son is 25. He sat and watched it with me and loved it.
I think what is so great about it was that it was shot in the best quality technicolor (there is a whole special about it on the blu-ray) that existed, like The Wizard of Oz. Years later in the 60’s the studios went to a cheaper technicolor - that’s why movies of the forties and thirties look still so glorious why so many movies in the sixties and seventies look washed out.
When I watched it on blu-ray, I saw things I never saw before, such as the costume details and all the jewels on the nobles. It was like a whole new movie experience, like I had never really seen the movie before. Being it is one of my all time favorites, I was really happy.
The performance from Flynn was so fresh. He may have been a jerk, but he gave any of today’s actors a run for their money, even though the acting style was different. The duel scene with Rathbone is such a classic.
PS. We watched all the special features. In the one where they shot all the actors hanging out in the forest, we noticed Olivia DID NOT hang out with Flynn. She seemed to really enjoy Rathbone’s company. And I’ve always heard she really didn’t like Flynn.
