Palin Puts Her Stamp on G.O.P. Primaries
The New York Times ^ | July 17, 2010 | Jeff Zeleny and Derek Willis

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The latest candidate to win the most coveted Republican prize of the election year stood on the steps of a gazebo here and reminded voters of a new reason to support her in the crowded race for Georgia governor.

“Sarah Palin has come on board,” the candidate, Karen Handel, told a group of supporters who gathered Friday on the grounds of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. As they broke into applause, she added: “It means one thing. We’re winning.”

Last week, Ms. Handel became at least the 50th candidate to win the Palin seal of approval. Through a breezy 194 words posted on Ms. Palin’s Facebook page — calling Ms. Handel a “pro-life, pro-Constitutionalist with a can-do attitude” — a four-way Republican primary came alive, the latest in a number of races across the country that have been influenced by Ms. Palin.

One year after leaving public office behind, defiantly stepping down as governor of Alaska to become a best-selling author and a television celebrity, Ms. Palin has waded deeply back into electoral politics, and she plans to increase her visibility on the campaign trail after Labor Day.

That she is leaving a major footprint on the 2010 midterm elections is not disputed, but less clear is whether the endorsements are rooted in an effort to amplify her image or to create a political strategy for the future.

When her organization, SarahPAC, filed its quarterly financial report last week, it prompted renewed speculation about her political ambitions for 2012. She raised $866,000 and donated $87,500 to Republican candidates — the biggest tallies in both categories since she opened the political action committee last year, but hardly exceptional for a prospective presidential candidate.(continued)

Meanwhile, Duncan Hunter hooked a trophy brown trout in an Idaho stream.

...unfortunately, it freed itself and swam away.

I think she should make a run at it. What the heck. My guess is that he is thinking the same thing. Fortune favors the bold.

You are the smarmiest, most race baiting little liar on FR.
Just keep taking down real conservatives, throwing out your silly comments about GOOD candidates...people like you have gotten us in this squisty middle mess. Hope you’re happy for helping to do all you can to destroy this nation.

Sarah Palin isn’t fit to shine Hunter’s shoes.

YEAH! I said it!

The ONLY reason you support Palin is because you understand full well that ‘regularization/legalization means AMNESTY.

You are a disgrace.

Your ignoranxce about Palin notwithstanding, The fact is, Hunter had his run, and nobody bought what he was selling. A good man no doubt, but a zero politically. Face it, he might as well just keep on fishing.

poster 'jla' (I use the term 'poster' because 'jla' is no FReeper, not in my book), is an effin dirtbag who likewise, is unfit to shine Duncan Hunter's shoes. Former Congressman Duncan Hunter arrived in Washington WITH Ronald Reagan in 1980 in the original Reagan Landslide, and Hunter has something that Sarah Palin will never have if she lives another 100 years, and that is combat veteran experience as a United States Army Ranger, under fire in Vietnam, and after being elected to the United States Congress, Hunter became the 'go-to' guy when it came to issues of national defense, support for our troops, and standing up for conservative principles. 26 years on the House Armed Services Committee, serving also as Chairman. That's more experience than Sarah Palin and Comrade Zero combined.

But poster 'jla' sees Hunter as just another target in their continuing jihad of sneers and smears against REAL conservatives.

It was Duncan Hunter who introduced the phrase 'the Kennedy wing of the Republican Party' and for speaking THAT truth, he became persona non grata with the RINO-RNC and their media toadies at Fox Snooze. Hunter was minimized and excluded in a deliberate effort by the establishment in the '08 campaign because they didn't want ANY real Reagan-conservative to have a prayer in the primary season.

Hunter fought the good fight and did the best that he could do. But now to the ignorant RINO-sh*theads like 'jla', he is nothing but a punchline. Duncan Hunter would have been the greatest President since Ronald Reagan, but America was simply too stupid to realize it.

Not only that, but what she's doing is methodical. Totally concentrated on 2010, while other potential candidates are worrying about 2012.

I predict that if she declares, it'll be a huge media circus that'll make the LeBron special look like those fuzzy picture lines you see on cable channels you're not subscribed to.

Your ignorance about Hunter is astounding. But then most of you don’t give a damn about integrity, leadership...you’re all into splash!! Go with Palin and McCain and their smarmy daughters who shouldn’t be ‘news’ items in the first place. Sink this country to depths never imagined. Wear your badge well, we will remember every one of you who sold this country out.

When McCain is re-elected, the Senate is DEAD and so is this
nation.

MK, face it. It’s over. The experiment that was the USA is dead! And it’s more the fault of ‘good’ GOP hacks who favor the Kennedy wing of the GOP than the democrat party...they’ve got the money....they’ll lie, cheat, steal to win. Integrity is DEAD. And any candidate who has it is maligned and made fun of.

Next time they will give us the biggest rino they can find from the group the media has already picked. We’ve had no voice in an election in 25 years. And the illegal aliens are pissed because they are disenfranchised!!! Dumb asses don’t have the brains to see MOST of the US citizenry has NO
representation.

John McCain and Sarah Palin got us Obama, and STILL the GOP will not let us even look at anything but Palin, Romney, newt, the Huckster.....ALL losers.

2012....same mess as the last one!

They have no clue what she's up to.

"They" includes her GOP rivals and naysayers. They don't build coalitions, so much as they pander to various segments of the populace. They don't unify so much as they build warchests and collect chits. Always the lesser of two evils.

GWB had no such coalition. He had no unified support, and he barely won, both in 2000 and 2004. Money from the corporate RINOs was his whole campaign. Conservatives pulled him across the line simply because Gore and Kerry were SOOOOO bad.

Sarah is showing what it takes for a conservative to win. It takes a consistent adherence to principle, a coalition of support among state governors, sitting representatives and senators, and a direct connection to many millions of voters.

Duncan Hunter might have been a great president, but he could never have gotten elected by simply posting his resume on the internet and sitting back, waiting for the voters to "discover" him.
