FOR Fourth of July weekend fireworks, even Macys couldnt top the spittle-spangled eruptions of Mel Gibson. The clandestine recordings of his serial audio assaults on his gal pal were instant Web and cable-TV sensations at once a worthy rival to Hollywoods official holiday releases and a compelling sequel to his fabled anti- Semitic rant of 2006. A true showman, Gibson offered vitriol for nearly all tastes, aiming his profane fusillade at women, blacks and Latinos alike. The invective was tied together by a domestic violence subplot worthy of Lethal Weapon. There was even a surprise comic coda, courtesy of Whoopi Goldberg, who, alone among Gibsons showbiz peers, used her television platform on The View to defend her buddys good character.
The Gibson tapes in plain English and not requiring the subtitles of some of the stars recent spectacles are a particularly American form of schadenfreude. Theres little we enjoy more than watching a pampered zillionaire icon (Gibsons production company is actually named Icon) brought low. The story would end there just another tidy morality tale in the profuse annals of Hollywood self-destruction from Fatty Arbuckle to Lindsay Lohan were it not for Gibsons unique back story.
Six years ago he was not merely an A-list movie star with a penchant for drinking and boorish behavior but also a powerful and canonized figure in the political and cultural pantheon of American conservatism. That he has reached rock bottom tells us nothing new about Gibson. He was the same talented, nasty, bigoted blowhard then that he is today. But his fall says a lot about the changes in our country over the past six years. We shouldnt take those changes for granted. We should take stock and celebrate. They are good news.

I thought it was about Mel, then we got to the money shot:
“Conservative Americas new signature movement, the Tea Party, has its own extremes, but it shuns culture-war battles. It even remained mum when a federal judge in Massachusetts struck down the anti-same-sex marriage Defense of Marriage Act this month. As the conservative commentator Kyle Smith recently wrote in The New York Post, the demise of Reagan-era groups like the Christian Coalition and the Moral Majority is just as important as the rise of the Tea Party. The morality armies have failed to inspire their children to join the crusade, he concluded, and not unhappily. The right, too, is subject to generational turnover.”
This guy has really been saving it up. Although I imagine if King Samir Shabazz called him a “dirty cracker hymie” and bitch-slapped him, he would apologize for drawing breath and slink away guiltily.
bttt
It's always time for a race war and bigotry with these people..if you let them get away with it. I don't agree with Frank Rich or Mel Gibson...not sure if that makes me antisemitic or a Jew lover./s
At any rate, the TEA party has the small government market covered..and I like it.
I heard this morning that Mel is reuniting with his ex wife and moving back to Australia - prayers for him have been answered very quickly.
I’d be his mate (Aussie buddy) if he needs one.
Mel (not the Gibson variety)
Gibson has explained that the companys name was chosen because icon means image in Greek, and that the inspiration came from a book on Russian icons in his den. The logo's artwork appears to be a small crop of the Theotokos of Vladimir icon, an Eastern Orthodox icon of Mary, mother of Jesus.
So the writer is trying to smear the entire Conservative movement because of Mel’s tirade?
I assume that's a joke.
With the NYTs it's always about cultural/political propaganda. The stated subjects are just an ever-changing sugar-coated distraction from the agenda.
Articles about Gibson, and Shabazz is calling for genocide of white babies.
Twilight Zone.
No joke, it’s up on Drudge. IMO, this is a good move for Mel. He needs to distance himself from the poisonous Hollyweird atmosphere which has been panting to destroy him for years. As for his behavior, we don’t know the full details of this latest brouhaha but I suspect a setup esp. since the press is ecstatic about taking him down. He should take his money and go rebuild a career in Australia, maybe in indie films.
I have from the first audio played on the tube. Her lines sounded scripted and waay to calm (dispassionate?) to be embroiled in an argument. It sounded like she was reading them, and not well. OTOH, his sounded pumped up. Sound quality varied, too, which makes me think someone has been 'audioshopping' the evidence.
The Left has hated him since The Passion of the Christ, and are cackling over the alleged incident.
She, on the other hand, has all to gain by having some 'leverage' on him, from enormous child support payments.
This in the article on the Drudge Report.
The article is not correct because the mansion was in Connecticut.
Also, I will definitely not believe Mel is moving to Australia until The National Enquirer or Radar on Line prints it....:)
Violet Kowal, a 26-year-old porn filmmaker from Poland, says she carried on a three-month affair with Gibson.
“Violet says she had steamy sex with Mel eight times at his compound in Malibu and Santa Monica office in 2009.
What says Mel?
Mels attorney told The ENQUIRER that Violets story is an absurd fabrication but Violet took a polygraph test that shows she is telling the truth about her relationship with Mel.”
