The Gulf crisis isn't over

Oil's well that ends well -- or so the White House hopes.

Almost as soon as BP announced it had succeeded (at least for now) in plugging the Deepwater Horizon gusher, President Obama called a White House press conference -- his first in nearly a year. His main message: The crisis is over; let the vacation begin!

The assembled press pretty much gave him a pass. The first question: "Did you feel the earthquake, Mr. President?" The tremor Washington had early Friday was 3.2 on the Richter Scale -- not enough to shake a martini, but the wizened Washington press corps apparently found it more newsworthy than the Gulf disaster.

To state the obvious, the disaster has to be bad enough, but not too bad, so that Obama and his leftist enviro allies can take maximum advantage. Stringing out the response to assure years of ecological damage and dependency on Federal support programs is ideal for the Marxist in the White House.

As far as I can see, based on press coverage, the beaches are no longer oily, the fishing industry is no longer threatened, Louisiana is no longer concerned with it's estuaries, and the region no longer has environmental or financial concerns. Looks like the whole "disaster" turned into a complete fizzle.

Unless I'm not hearing everything I ought to be hearing.

Michelle Obama, returning from her Maine vacation, continued to show her support for the gulf coast residence by wearing another oil blob creation.
