'Sanctuary' is lawless and deadly
NY Post ^ | July 20, 2010 | KRIS W. KOBACH

Last week, the Justice Department made an astonishing statement about its unprecedented lawsuit to stop the Arizona illegal-immigration law. Attorney General Eric Holder's spokeswoman, Tracy Schmaler, claimed that it was appropriate to go after Arizona, but inappropriate to stop "sanctuary cities."

Schmaler said: "There is a big difference between a state or locality saying they are not going to use their resources to enforce a federal law, as so-called sanctuary cities have done, and a state passing its own immigration policy that actively interferes with federal law. . . That's what Arizona has done in this case."

There's a big difference, all right. Sanctuary cities are expressly forbidden by federal law, while Arizona's statute is in perfect compliance with federal law.

Evidently, just as Holder didn't read the 10-page Arizona law before he criticized it on national TV, his staff couldn't be bothered to read the relevant federal immigration laws before issuing the statement.

By this twisted logic, then, no state or municipality should ever be criticized for having to use its resources to implement any Federal law... No Child Left Behind, Obamacare, Medicare, ... shall I go on? Maybe call such practices “Budget Sanctuaries”.

Or.. what about speed limits?

I am over in Gutenstein Austria right now on a missions trip where I also just got married on 7/16 and so far the majority of people are still in love with the idiot in chief but only because he is not Bush.... Go figure.

Meanwhile people here are so depressed and there is not much hope to better yourself.

It is so beautiful here but I love my country

Laws mean nothing now. No one needs to read them before passing them or after passing them. The only thing that matters is the men in power. The government consists of men doing as they will as they rule over us.

I guess we can take pride in the fact that, as third world countries go, we have a rather high standard of living. For now.

Don’t waste your time trying to understand any legal arguments, here. The Sanctuary Cities are doing what Obama wants them to do, therefore, their activities are legal. Arizona is not doing what Obama wants, therefore, Arizona’s activities are illegal.

L’etat, C’est Barack...

Just part of the `Ruling Class`. They don’t need to read the rules, they just make them up as they go.

The sanctuary cities are run by libs. Therefore whatever they do, however brazen, is OK with the regime. OTH, Arizona has a republican governor and is a conservative state generally.

I think you have hit on the perfect defense. Arizona should declare itself a "Budget Sanctuary" and threaten to not spend any money on some unfunded federal mandate which is not popular in Arizona. Then dare Holder to sue.

Holder's position on Arizona's immigration law would threaten to estop him from going into court with the opposite position on unfunded mandates.

We have to prepare to take over the entire government in January 2013 now.

First, arrange for a major purchase of handcuffs because an awful lot of the top echelon in every federal agency are going to need to go straight to prison after this.

Sounds like their circumstances and attitudes are in complete harmony with their politics.

I mistyped this... probably due to the hour. I think everybody got my meaning, but it should have read: "No state or municipality should ever be criticized for failing to use its resources to implement any Federal law..."
