Pittsburgh City Council this morning passed a resolution demanding the state impose a one-year moratorium on Marcellus Shale drilling while it considers tighter regulations for the drilling industry.
State Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Highland Park, has introduced a bill that would require a moratorium on new drilling. Under his bill, existing drilling operations would be allowed to continue.
Though no drilling is occurring in the city now, drilling company representatives have been negotiating for access to properties in Lawrenceville.
How about you pass a resolution which says Pittsburgh won’t buy anymore gasoline and use only bicycles. I hope your BMI isn’t too great.
Good God no, we wouldn’t want any economic activity or new jobs to go popping up in our fair town.
Jim Ferlo—when he was on the Pittsburgh City Council, we called him Comrade Ferlo, for good reason.
I’m sure Sestak wants the moratorium, too.
They need a year to figure out how to line their pockets with dough by taxing drilling out of existence.
How ‘bout Florida’s Crist proposing a permenant ban on drilling of FL’s coast. Seems to me the attack is on....
I live in northwestern Pennsylvania, and there is a lot of drilling in this area. It can sometimes be a mess on the roads around the drilling sites because of the mud. But once the well is in and operating the site is cleaned up and has a very small footprint. And it employs a lot of people in the area.
Debbie Stabenow isn’t satisfied with no American drilling under the great lakes, She’s demanding that Canada stop drilling under the great lakes.
I’m voting for a man who has always voted in favor of drilling under the lakes.
If this is the same Lawrenceville that’s on the NY/Penn border, you could probably buy the whole town for a mil.

Hey, CC! Like I said, the attack is on. This is no more than a front to push Cap & Tax.
You and I are probably very nearby (Warren County here). New York already imposed a moratorium and Pennsylvania is getting all the jobs.
Why do Democrats always want to kill prosperity?
I live here. Ferlo is a career politician who can sniff out a 'pay to play' opportunity with the best of the disgusting political class.
If this is the same Lawrenceville thats on the NY/Penn border, you could probably buy the whole town for a mil.
No, Lawrenceville in Tioga County is a different place.
This Lawrenceville is a neighborhood within the city of Pittsburgh, in Allegheny county.
