“.. the whole concept of whaling in today’s world is idiotic and indefensible.”

Hello to all my Inuit and Japanese friends, Wendy1946 wants you all to become scumbags in Harlem. She knows better than you, so give up your ancient heritage - Wendy1946 says it’s idiotic and indefensible. Got that?

If some whales are becoming extinct they should be protected. I am for a controlled harvest.

They aren’t becoming extinct.

They are washing up on beaches all the time.

Hi Wendy! Please read through some of my earlier posts on this thread about my experience trying muktuk for the first time today. In fact, I'm going to run to the fridge and see if there is any left :-)

They are not hunting endangered whales, so that is not a concern. My question is really more about how many people are against hunting whales period, like they are special place in the galactic universe or something.

Your screen name hearkens of the proud Yankee past of whaling. It was an industry like no other, and gave rise to folklore, legend and literature for the ages.

The Biblical scope of whaling is not lost in Melville’s writings.

Job 3:8
May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan.

Are you up for a Nantucket sleigh ride?

I’ve been curious about it for a while, and didn’t have the chance until today. If you get the chance, don’t pass it up!

Friends regularly get cold-smoked salmon from the lower Yukon that is pretty good.

NOT. They stopped whaling a long time ago and only recently began it again.

Besides they let the last one they caught rot on a beach because no one liked the taste.

Are you up for a Nantucket sleigh ride?

Sing all ye young men,
Of Nantucket sleigh-rides,
Of white, foam-flecked faces
As grim as the sea...

(Lyrics to a song I once knew about that period of time...)

There are laws governing the humane killing of cows and ownership as well.

Whales in international waters belong to everyone, and if we all killed as many as Japan there would be none left.

Japan has continually behaved in a sleazy manner about whaling and I for one vote for Paul Watson on this issue.

The whale meat found being served in a restaurant in California recently was found to be from an endangered species.

And it was indeed from Japan. So they are hunting and killing endangered whales.

Something about being hitched to a pissed-off whale in the dark in an open dingy in the deep just pulls your gonads up around your throat.

That was from reading about it....

Yep...

Another part of that same song goes...

A Nantucket sleigh-ride,
Lasts hours, and lifetimes,
You'll return to Nantucket,
Or else, you'll be dead...

Very dangerous occupation, back in the day, and I doubt its all that much safer now...

Let’s just slaughter every animal on earth and be done with it. Then we can just kill each other. Nothing on earth can think and feel except us. Central park wilders. Muslim honor killers. Southern lynchers. Nazi death camp organizers. Soviet collectivizers. US native american eradicators. Hutu slaughterers of the Tutsi. The list goes on and on. Awesome sauce we are indeed.

HERE’S MY FAVORITE!

“My question is really more about how many people are against hunting whales period, like they are special place in the galactic universe or something.”

By your logic, exactly what special place in the “galactic universe” do you assign to the human species? I’ll refer you to the acclaimed Twilight Zone episode “To Serve Man”. Don’t worry ... the Kanamits would probably spit you out.
