BELL, Calif. – Three administrators whose huge salaries sparked outrage in this small blue-collar suburb of Los Angeles have agreed to resign, the City Council said Friday.

Council members emerged from an hours-long closed session at midnight Friday and announced that they'd accepted the resignations of Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo, Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia and Police Chief Randy Adams.

Rizzo was the highest paid at $787,637 a year — nearly twice the pay of President Barack Obama — for overseeing one of the poorest towns in Los Angeles County.

Spaccia makes $376,288 a year and Adams earns $457,000, 50 percent more than Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.

Rizzo would be entitled to a state pension of more than $650,000 a year for life, according to calculations made by the Times. That would make Rizzo, 56, the highest-paid retiree in the state pension system.

IMO this was a pension scam from the start. Sure the salary was outrageous, but they knew it could only last a few years before the excrement hit the fan. Now together they have millions to pay lawyers to protect their multi-million pension annuity. This is the tip of the public pension iceberg and needs to be the trigger to get real pension reform. I think a RICO prosecution is in order.

Pensions should be approved on a year-by-year basis.

The political class has learned how to raid treasuries across the country — and the sheeple sit on their asses and do nothing.

Pensions are all but gone in the private sector, it's time to bring the public sector into the 21st century.

How many Calif. administrators that have bloated salaries and pensions statewide? Getting rid of the salaries and pensions ALONE would like balance the state budget.

I don't think he's likely to stay in Bell much longer ... unbelievable! ;-)

But of course we still have a City Manager who makes just under $180,000 base salary, and an Assistant City Manager who makes just under $170,000 base salary. Our City Council Critters are all taking home $20,000 a year too. Nothing we can do about any of it except complain, and you only get 3 minutes on Monday night after all other Council business is done, where they all sit like Easter Island statues, nod politely when you are done, and then move on...

Wow, are you in Tucson???? That sounds almost identical!!!!

Why are they creeps? Rizzo started in the 1980’s with a guarantee of 12% EVERY YEAR raise. The creeps are the ones who let it go on. I would JUMP at any job with and automatic 12% raise.

I’m going to guess that all the city council members are democrats.

The city web page is available in Spanish, but good luck finding the names and party affiliations of the city council.

Someone needs to invite him to lunch at Carl’s Jr, after a couple of Double Western Bacon Cheeseburgers, 2 orders of Large Fries, and a couple of large Chocolate Shakes. You will be well on your way to saving alot of state pension funds.
