Rep. Charles Rangel broke ethics rules, House panel finds
The Washington Post ^ | 06/23/10 | Carol D. Leonnig and Paul Kane

A House ethics subcommittee announced Thursday that it found that Rep. Charles B. Rangel violated congressional ethics rules and that it will prepare for a trial, probably beginning in September. The panel is expected to make the details of his alleged violations public next Thursday.

Rangel (D-N.Y.) has been under the House ethics committee's microscope since early 2008 after it was reported that he may have used his House position to benefit his financial interests. Two of the most serious inquiries have focused on Rangel's failure to declare $239,000 to $831,000 in assets on his disclosure forms, and on his effort to raise money for a private center named after him at City College of New York using his congressional letterhead.

In March, Rangel reluctantly stepped down as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee -- a week after the ethics panel ruled in a separate case that he had broken congressional gift rules by accepting trips to conferences in the Caribbean that were financed by corporate interests. The panel said that, at a minimum, Rangel's staff knew about the corporate backing for the 2007 and 2008 trips -- and that the congressman was therefore responsible.

This most likely is not somthing new, just something he has been caught doing, BUT!! Noting is going to happen, MAYBE a slap on the wrist, or, ‘you ought not have done that’, ‘next case please’.

He’s hidden between a quarter and 3 quarters of a million dollars in assets he’s gotten from who knows where, and they say he’s guilty of bad ethics?

Man, where’s the nearest bank - I feel like breaking some ethics rules.

I would think that 95% of the national disgraces in Congress have violated ethics laws. They have no ethics and consider power their God.

Lets be clear about this...these FEW charges are but the tip of an ice berg of Rangle and his heinous actions over 40 years. I would bet my life there are many more that are worse and that they are so bad and implicate so many that they are simply sacrificing him with these few to cover the rest.

They don’t even know how much money he’s hidden - between a quater and 3 quarters of a million is quite a spread.

Makes you wonder just how much he’s really stolen from us taxpayers.

And the cosequences will be? NOTHING.

Rangel is a donk. That means the SRM won’t cover this. The fGOP is too spineless to make it an issue. And the donk run Congress won’t even slap him on the wrist.

See my tag...

For sure.
He’s probably so blatantly guilty that they had to hit him with some token charge.

He didn’t just start his shady character, it’s been there for a long, long time.

“And the cosequences will be? NOTHING.”

Unfortunatley, you are probably right. They’ll find it was just a slight “oversight” on his part, slap a minimal fine on his sorry ass, then promote him to a higher position in zero’s admin.

Rangel is the sacrificial lamb designed to (1) send a message that the Dems are taking out the garbage and (2) divert attention from all the other Dem malefactors. Be prepared for other diversionary manouevers.

I think he’s had a bit too much “Good and Plenty” for way too long.

But you’re slap on the wrist remark is probably right on. I’m sure that’s all he’ll get.
