NEW ORLEANS -- At first, 4-year-old Jonathan Bush wanted to sell all of his toys to help save the oiled pelicans.
The images on the evening news upset him, said Lori Bush, his mother.
Lori Bush told him he did not have to take that extreme a step -- plus she had planned to pass along his toys to a younger brother, eventually.
"How about selling lemonade?" she suggested.
Jonathan jumped on the idea immediately, helping his mother organize a well-patronized lemonade stand Saturday morning.
"I want to help the pelicans," Jonathan said, adding that he can not help directly with the cleanup "because (the oil will) get in my eyes and ears and nose and mouth."
The stand, located at Fortier Park, raised $200 in the first 15 minutes it was open for business, Bush reported. While she suggested a fifty cent donation, many people gave five, 10, and 20 dollar bills.
"Our neighbors have been fantastic," Bush said. "They've really stepped up."

Please excuse the stutter.
dang that sounds like a bad movie
WHY is he EVEN seeing those images???
From the article:
The donations will go to the group of students and faculty from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine working to care for the injured wildlife. While costs for visibly oiled animals are being reimbursed, a growing number of birds who ingested oil also need care, said Bush.
Because he lives in New Orleans, La. It’s been on t.v. here a little bit.
Amen!
At four years old he should be busy pushing his favorite Tonka Toy dump truck around the house driving his folks nuts!
No intention meant in criticizing the little tyke or his efforts but geeze, he should concentrate on being a little boy and not carrying the weight of the world...his folks should know better, imho.
The future Socialized Government would arrest the parents on trump up charges of child labor laws, throw them in jail, take the kid away from them and give him to some bad red necks foster care parents that will raise him to be a future welfare case drinking cases of cheap beer, etc, etc........... getting fat on working or not working at some unionized factory like government motors until he got old and no longer could vote Democrat and then they would pull the plug on him.
*snort* This is New Orleans. If a 'health official' tried to shut this little boy's lemonade stand down, he or she would likely get a beat-down by the neighbors. ;o)
Here comes another huge expensive program.
When are there too many pelicans??
They went from an estimated 50 pairs to 15,000 and this is from an old article.
