THE US government secretly advised Scottish ministers it would be "far preferable" to free the Lockerbie bomber than jail him in Libya.

Ruh-roh! Now, WHY would they prefer this terrorist be released vs imprisoned in a Libyan prison? Didn't he receive a hero's welcome when he returned?

Had it been a prisoner transfer, then Libya would have released him. The international hubbub that would have ensued would have made it impossible for the BP/Libya deal to go through.

BUT, by letting the Scots hide behind compassion, (and now ignorance of the bomber's TRUE condition) the WH achieved what it (and BP) wanted....the payment TO BP for its contributions to Zer0.
