I am neither a biologist nor an expert in the “Sociology of Gender”, but I am curious about something.

I seem to recall something about an XY sex-determination system that should be relevant to gender. Among humans, females are homogametic (with an XX sex chromosome) and males are heterogametic (with an XY sex chromosome).

I can’t see how amputation of the penis could transform the chromosomes of an individual male from an XY male to an XX female. If such genetic transformation does not occur, it would seem that, following such a procedure, the patient is merely a mutilated male with a profound delusion rather than a female.

What am I missing here?

Sure, there are rare human cases of an XX fetus that naturally develops male sex organs in utero and an XY fetus that naturally develops female sex organs in utero, but I don’t think that phenomenon is relevant here.

DNA can’t change. Thus the Eunuch Horn does not make a unicorn. And surgery cannot make a man into a woman, etc.

There is a very! rare disorder called hermaphroditism where the baby has both ovarian and testicular tissue. This is caused by fertilization by two sperm and a fusion at some point of the zygote into one fetus.
