Kerry On Yacht-Taxes Issue: 'Nothing More To Say' (Lurch Dumbs Up)
WBZ TV ^ | 7/26/2010 | Unattributed

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Senator John Kerry found himself answering questions Monday about his new $7 million yacht and the controversy about where he's docking it.

"There's nothing more to say about it," he told reporters at an event at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station Monday.

The "Isabel" is docked in Rhode Island rather than at Kerry's summer home on Nantucket or in Boston Harbor. That means he avoids paying nearly $500,000 in taxes to Massachusetts and he doesn't have to pay a $70,000-a-year excise tax.

Rhode Island repealed those taxes in 1993. That has made the state something of a nautical tax haven.

"Let's get this very straight, I've said consistently we will pay our taxes, we have always paid our taxes. It's not an issue period," he said.

Last week, when the Boston Herald broke the story, Kerry's office released a statement saying, "The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it's based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes, not tax reasons."

"It's being worked on. It's under warranty down there. It's being worked on and it will come to Massachusetts and I look forward to that," Kerry said Monday.

When asked "Did you berth the boat in Massachusetts?" he replied, "That depends on who owns it."

Then, he said to his driver, "Can I get out of here please?"

He’s the senior sinator from the state of Taxachussets yet he doesn’t want to pay taxes to the state that put him on the Hill. Is there anything missing from this picture? What a piece of drek.

He’s already docked it at Nantucket.
He owes it.

Now he’s tring to pass the blame by saying that he does not “officially” own it.

You’re not wrong. The issue is not the amount of money Lurch is saving on taxes but rather his desire to raise everyone else’s taxes to pay for more government bureacracy and programs while the rats like himself dodge every tax they can every chance they get while accumulating the wealth they begrudge others.

It’s the hypocrisy, stupid.

Lurch! Good news! Stand for re-election, and we'll take care of that for ya!

Just let us know when.

Yes, and when he was there he hooked electrical wires to the testicles of American soldiers and turned up the power.

It would appear my fellow Freepers have forgotten a basic Liberal fiscal policy: Taxes are for the little people.

Its a non-story if the person was an ordinary citizen. But when you are a ranking member of a political party that believes the rich should be punished with taxation and you avoid that taxation, its a story.

The Swift Boaters made him do it.

Or perhaps it was Bush's fault.

“If this were any one of you, the rest of us would be cheering you on because you figured out a legal way to minimize your tax burden.”

Au contraire. None of us wrote these tax laws or voted them into law. Sanctimonious John Forbes Kerry inflicts big government and its costs on us, campaigns against “tax breaks for the rich”, and then skates on a huge tax liability by parking his latest toy in a neighboring state in full view of everyone.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has a firearm or two in violation of Massachusetts laws, too.

Massachusetts tax codes are seared, SEARED, into his head.

I love the poster’s idea the other day that Kerry will officially name the boat “Christmas In Cambodia”.

Heh... or maybe a shorter reference: "SEARED!"

If this were any one of you, the rest of us would be cheering you on because you figured out a legal way to minimize your tax burden.

If that's true that's because none of us here promote high taxes as good policy so we wouldn't be cheering a hypocrite.

Dude, you’re missing the point. Kerry’s never seen a tax or tax hike he wouldn’t vote for. Yet he’s more than happy to evade taxes himself - it’s the rank hypocrisy that galls honest taxpayers.

I’d avoid Mass. also, to save that kind of money. But the fact that I don’t don’t vote for and enact higher taxes, and don’t vote for politicians that vote for higher taxes, insulates me from charges of hypocrisy. Unlike John Kerry, I haven’t been a Mass. senator for decades, helping create the high tax burden state that Kerry has supported.

This is really a non story and is very common in Ma.because the taxes are so high.

Not quite. If this were Joe Bonehead it would be a non-story. However, we have a saintly Democrat, John Kerry, who considers it to be patriotic to pay taxes and he is NOT paying taxes.

Massachusetts went after the peons buying tires in New Hampshire for not paying Mass tax. Why are they just casually letting $500K and $70K a year go by if not for the man's position in politics?

Hell yes it's a story.

There was, I’m sure , a much bigger tax issue for him to have built and purchased a yacht in New Zealand. Don’t know what it coulda been...but there is, I’m sure.
