This is proof that the GOP is more loyal to the Ruling Class than us. They would rather see one of their own (Reid, as a member of the Ruling Class) get in under the banner of the Democrats than support a conservative member of the Country Class who advocates for “crazy” and “extreme” policy ideas such as personal liberty and eliminating crap like the Dept. of Ed.

Hence, why I'm beginning to believe that maybe we need to stop listening to the naysayers who tell us that we should fight to purge the GOP of the RINOs and instead just build another party where conservatives are welcome, where people actually honor the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and who believe that preserving our social institutions is just as important as preserving our economic stability. Hoping that the Republicans will wake up is an exercise in futility.

I mean, I see what folks are talking about when discussing third parties. We usually don't hear of third parties until the election and usually they tend to take votes from the GOP, enabling the RAT to win. At the same time, how much longer are we going to keep hoping that the GOP will wake up? I'm not encouraged by what I'm seeing.

Has anyone ever seen this much hype this far out in support of a sitting senator? There’s a lifetime until the Fall, people’s opinions haven’t been cemented yet, and he’s thrown a lot of money at it.

What’s the source of the story? AP/Yahoo? I wonder who they are rooting for.

I'm right at the same point that you are at. Conventional Tea Party wisdom suggests that we should try to retake the GOP, but I question whether that would work. The GOP Ruling Class aren't going to give up power without a nasty fight. Most likely the fight would come in the form of what Trent Lott suggested, which is to co-opt the Tea Party once they get to DC. I expect that strategy would work.

You are correct that we are like the battered wife going back to our abusive GOP husband for more beatings. I'm kind of hoping for a way to completely relegate the GOP to the ash heap of history so we can make a clean break. I know that the chances of it happening are small, but it has been done before (ironically, of course, that's the story of the origins of the Republicans). It would probably take quite a bit more social upheaval before that can happen. That would be a catalyst to finally wake up all the zombies who just march into the polling place and vote party line every election, no matter what. Unfortunately, I suspect we will be getting some nasty upheavals soon, so I guess my theory will be put to the test.

Worthy objective, extraordinarily difficult. I have dallied with third parties, and you cannot believe how much it is like herding cats. And that’s not counting the fringies who really go off into the weeds. I don’t like the two-party system, and George Washington recommended against it, precisely because of the loyalty problem, but we really don’t have enough time to whip a third party into shape. Reagan Conservatives/Constitutionalists can run under any party banner if they can get enough votes. It’s really true: All politics is local.
