While many Americans are cutting back on their vacation plans or eliminating them altogether, Barack Obama is setting an aspirational example for all of us. Sure, times are tough, but perhaps we can enjoy a life of leisure vicariously through our betters.
On July 16-18, the Obamas enjoyed their first summer vacation in beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine. The idyllic town has long been favorite summer getaway for the rich and powerful going back to the Gilded Age. Truly a resort fit for a king public servant.
Anticipating exhaustion from two long weeks in Washington, D.C., Michelle Obama is hosting her eldest daughter and several family friends on a "private vacation" to Spain, August 4-8. Staying at the luxurious Villa Padierna...

“Aspirational” isn’t a word. I think they meant “inspirational”. Unless the author was trying to be sarcastic and make a new word that implies a guy who’s ass-headed behavior he wants others to mimic because he thinks he’s being inspirational.
While he is on vacation, he is not causing more harm!
I hope he is impeached and fined for all his money and his pension cut off. Then we can sue him for every nickle he can ever earn.

Thing is, I enjoy working. I’d be pretty bored if I was in “vacation” mode 50% of the time or more.
Then again, what do you expect from a flaming anti-American foreign national Moslem communist, who’s never done an honest day’s work for an honest dollar, and has a chip on his shoulder the size of Mt. Everest?
This stuff is why I rather prefer that our presidents have gotten all the jet setting and money spending out of their systems. Bush was blasted for being born rich, but he didn’t treat the White House and the prerogatives of his office like a playground and didn’t jet set around the world demanding respect.
And remember that Leonid Brezhnev had a collection of cars that would make Jay Leno drool. When you are bleeding the populace for it, you can afford these things.
Where did his money come from? When did he becomea millionaire? How does one transition from total poverty to his wealth without working a day in his life?

Books helped but he isn’t paying a dime for these vacations. These are on you and I.

Y’know, I’m busting my butt just to keep the overhead of my business paid. My business pretty runs on the disposable income of others, and if you haven’t noticed lately, it’s in very short supply.
No matter. Skippy and the rest of the elites party hearty, because they know their excesses will be borne by the little people and their offspring. Who knew destroying an economy could be so much fun?
In a better time, the castle would already be under siege.
But Skippy and Company know that they are beyond any significant justice. And that’s the real travesty here.
On an earlier thread it was reported that Obama was claiming that his family had been forced to cut back, just like the rest of us! Somebody needs to put these stories together for SNL in time for Saturday night!

This is a grindstone-nosing age all right and Bummer might tempt us to envy. However, it is probably for the better that Bummer does nothing in the White House for long stretches of time. Better nothing than damage.

I think he should take as much vacation as he wants. The more time he spends on vacation, the less damage he can inflict working. I wish he would take a 2 year vacation

July 16 to 18, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Sounds like a long weekend. When were/are the other three. [With 10 days of annual leave, when my children were young I used to take 4 long weekends, one full week, and the Friday after Thanksgiving.] I heard he was planning on trip on the Gulf Coast to encourage people to start going there again to benefit their local economy. More facts please.
If he does another call to people to swim the Gulf for “the economy”, watch and see if he sends his daughters into the Corexit water, first! He won’t.
I hear the $800,000 city manager job for Bell, Cal is now open. We can encourage Obama to send his resume to them. He can double his salary and obviously they are looking for someone with experience in government spending.A match made in heaven

Many of you might remember that when this guy became president, he said we would all have to sacrifice. I guess that meant we all had to give up our leisure time to pay for his. You’re right; President Bush did not hobnob all over the place with his friends and supporters. If he did get some time away from the Oval Office, he was usually still working.
It took YEARS to save the money to take our kids and their spouses with us to Hawaii this coming September! And all they do is go on vacation or play golf...

I wonder if George Soros has an opening in the U.N. that Obama could transfer to? I’d hate to have to give him up for the greater cause of saving the world, but really he’s done about all he can do to transform America and I’d hate to see his resume take a backwards step. It’d be sad to see him go, but sacrifices must be made for he greater good!

Since when do we, the Taxpayers, have to pay for “Friends and Family” to travel?
I am sick and tired of paying for luxury vacations for any President, Vice President, Speaker of the House. Let them pay for their own vacations.
