A powerful Afghan insurgent leader and a man identified as Osama Bin Laden's financial adviser purchased ground-to-air missiles from North Korea in 2005, according to an uncorroborated U.S. intelligence report released by Wikileaks on Sunday.
"On 19 November 2005, Hezb-Islami party leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar [sic] and Dr. Amin [no last name], Osama Bin Ladin's financial advisor, both flew to North Korea departing from Iran," the undated report said.
"While in North Korea, the two confirmed a deal with the North Korean government for remote controlled rockets for use against American and coalition aircraft," said the report, whose origin could not be determined from the version published on the Wikileaks site.
Wikileaks had previously said it planned to strip any markings from the documents that might help U.S. law enforcement agencies identify who leaked them.
The intelligence report said, "The shipment of said weapons is expected shortly after the New Year," meaning the beginning of 2006.
The terms of the deal were not reported.
"The two men stayed in North Korea for two weeks, returning to Helmand, Afghanistan around Dec. 3," the report said. Hekmatyar proceeded to eastern Afghanistan.
Then, about 18 months later, according a previously undisclosed after-action military report obtained by Wikileaks, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was downed by a missile "shortly after crossing over the Helmand River."
"The impact of the missile projected the aft end of the aircraft up as it burst into flames followed immediately by a nose dive into the crash site with no survivors," the May 30, 2007 report added.

Conventional Wisdom has it that Rumsfeld's resignation was brought about as a direct result of the 2006 election results. The timing of this data makes me wonder if perhaps he was recommending/advocating a course of action that the rest of the administration found unthinkable, and the election was just a convenient cover story.
It just goes to show the the USA has not been serious about winning a war since WWII. If we actually felt like the war was a war for national survival, we’d have nuked both countries by now.

Nothing like this would happen in Iran without the regime's knowledge. It was given open support at the worst and tacit approval at the least.
You’d almost think these documents are a CIA plant. The lefties have been salivating over this, expecting something to damn the US, and have basically admitted they’re authentic. Now it comes out that the papers have damning evidence against the left, they’re kind of stuck.

We should not attempt to win wars any longer. Isn’t it what we teach our children — don’t worry about winning or losing as long as you have fun?
The problem with this type of fun is that people’s lives are unnecessarily sacrificed.

Several things spring to mind on this:
1.) Wasn’t there a story about the Navy shadowing a NK freighter supposedly carrying “weapons” around this time, but the freighter was never boarded?
2.) Rumsfeld was no fool, and likely advocated cutting off any logistical access from NK to Afganistan. This likely didn’t sit well with the RINOs in the Bush Admin and over at State. He probably got sick and tired of losing every strategic decision to fools and traitors and quit in disgust.
3.) Gulbuddin Hekmatyr, darling of the CIA-ISI during the Russia-Afgan War. Excelled at killing less-fanatical members of the muj and generally avoided the Russians. ISI has kept him on the payroll for years. CIA followed their advice and backed him over many deserving others. The gift that keeps on giving...
Just interesting to see “where they draw the line” on keeping something secret.
And with a 200,000+ document theft and another 90,000+ document theft, it is clear that there are fifth columnists working within our state department.
This isn’t “just” releasing a damning memo or single video clip. This is taking a full file for others to dig through in an unredacted form. While some “may make the case” for a “whistlerblower” event, the sheer number of documents being released exposes moles within our government.
Try for treason (providing aid and comfort to an enemy in wartime), convict, and then formally execute.
The Jane Fonda and Weather Underground cases also show that we no longer prosecute traitors.
