OK I looked up specs on Altima Hybrid. 158hp ICE +40hp electric = 198hp. Base Price= $26.8K 35mpg City/ 33mpg Hwy. By the time you get all the options you are looking @ $30K for the Altima Hybrid. So it probably has a 20gal tank.

Those are good specs but if I were looking a a midsized Hybrid I'd have gone with the Ford Fusion. Better Specs and better Price.

But the car is a different animal than the Chevy Volt. If you stay under 40miles per day you will use NO gasoline. Even when the ICE Engine comes on you get over 40mpg Highway (not sure about city). And the 33.5K price the Chevy Volt is loaded with options. So I'd take the Volt any day over the Altima. But do you think there will NEVER be in technical improvements in personal transportation? If you do then what would they be? Are you against new technology? Are you a Luddite? And let me remind you the Volt was started long become the election of Obama.

You are correct that I've engaged in name calling but I've been accurate. I'm very frustrated by comments from posters misstating the facts about the Chevy Volt. I know a lot about the Volt and have been following it for at least 3 years. There are so many idiots posting stupid and inaccurate posts and this has a negative effect. I think they listen to Rush Limbaugh and just parrot what he says. I've listened to his show the last couple of days and he's been trashing the vehicle big time. He's wrong in his comments and analysis and is shooting from the hip. He doesn't know what he's talking about and he's flat out wrong!

Now tack on the cost of running the Volt the same distance (electric or gas charging). Probably pushes it out to 300,000 miles before the Volt has the cost advantage.
Oh, and that doesn’t take into account maintenance - nobody is ready to fix that thing.

This car was conceived of by Bob Lutz back about 2005! It was started in earnest in 2006. It was NEVER ordered up by bureaucrats. It was in development long before Obama was elected.

That is your opinion. I know better.

When it comes to the Volt, there's acres of ignorance out there. You've addressed that on this thread very effectively.

I'll just say that I regularly blow the EPA mileage ratings out of the water on my personal vehicles. It does not surprise me that Joan could do the same, especially since the methodology has been repeatedly dumbed down.

My daughter's Altima Hybrid cost $24g, not $30g. Not everyone buys the fully loaded versions with gps electronics media system, that's like another $5g. Basic stereo system was fine. She paid a little more for tax, but got about $6g tax credit on her taxes, so her actual price was under $20g! To be fair, this was a couple years ago and prices may have climbed a couple grand since then.

She presses the Start button, you hear no sound, and she drives away on battery power. So for short trips, she's mostly on the batteries. This is comparable to your Volt. She really doesn't use much gas until she's on the highway.

Stop speculating, you don't know anything until the Volt is available. As I said, the Toyota, Nissan and other hybrids have been available for years and are proven products. Nothing is proven about Volt other than it is excessively expensive.
