Immigration Decison will erode Obama's Support
DickMorris.com ^ | July 28, 2010 | Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

When Judge Susan Bolton granted an injunction halting the enforcement of key provisions of the Arizona immigration enforcement law, she ruled in favor of the Justice Department's position, but against the president's political interest.

Had the judge sustained this law, it would have made moot Obama's opposition to the Arizona law. As it is, she has transformed the law into a big campaign issue against Obama. Now the president is standing in the way of a state that wants to enforce the law that he won't.

The Arizona law is massively popular in the United States. Over 60 percent of all American voters support it. But the president has sought and has succeeded in stopping it from taking effect. Now this majority -- close to two-thirds of the electorate -- that backs the law will be able to focus their blame for its non-enforcement squarely on the president of the United States.

In the long term, the Bolton decision will likely be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court and Arizona will find itself vindicated. But, in the meantime, the decision endangers the re-election chances of three Democratic Congressmen from Arizona. Their constituents will not be satisfied with statements from these Democrats supporting the Arizona law. They will become embittered because Obama's Justice Department has overridden their will.

Why did Obama bring the suit in the first place if it hurts him? Because he was seeking to increase the turnout of Latino voters and trying to win them by the same huge margin (2:1) that they delivered to him in 2008. Since he took office, Obama's approval among Hispanics has dropped to 54%, foreshadowing a massive abandonment of his Congressional candidates in November.

Brewer’s opponent, that dumbass Goddard, was on the tube today smirking after the ditzy “judge” came out with her decision. That isn’t going to play well with Arizona voters. What a jerk.

Morris is right.

For one thing, I’m predicting a slam dunk win for Hayworth.

And that’s just the beginning. Obama is such a fool. This suit against the people will backfire on him. Big time.

O’Bama thinks he’s the next M.L. King, only taking things further, turning Dr. King’s dream into a nightmare.

Arizona needs to file a countersuit requesting a writ of mandamus to compel Obama and all subordinate officers of the executive with jurisdiction over law enforcement and immigration to enforce Federal immigration law as written.

I've been wondering why a writ of mandamus wasn't their first course of action.

J.D. has not ran a very effective campaign; from what I’ve read and been told. He needs to spend now until Primary Election Day, letting everyone know that McCain is for Amnesty.

Ok, my take on todays actions. Susan Bolton struck down parts of the bill. One part i find disturbing. It is the part about solicitation of work on the curbside. Susan Bolton denied the part that made it a criminal offense for illegals to solicit work on the sidewalk or curbs. So am I reading this correctly? Did she just MAKE immigration policy? Did she just say that any illegal, not just in Arizona, but the USA, can not solicit for work on the curb and without fear of criminal offense? Many cities through the US have city ordinances that prohibit this. It is a misdemeanor. Did Susan just challenge all those cities with this ruling? And is she now making policy from the bench? Under federal law, you cannot be unfair on the law, making it legal in one state and illegal in another. If she is making immigration policy from the bench, has she violated federal law, as only Congress can make policy and she isn’t congress? Did a can of worms just get opened here? Tell me I am not seeing major abuse of power from the Obama/Holder corruption team?

Goddard is finished. The lizard faced fool is done for this cycle. I was amazed they could find enough idiots here to elect him attorney general.

Did you see that idiot on TV today after the decision was announced. What a jerk. I don’t know what makes him think that he even has a chance. He is clueless about the illegal alien problem in Arizona.

This is very interesting.

Obama could have gone two ways on this - he could have tried to appear fairminded and let AZ do this, but he chose to interfere.

The only answer to this IMHO is because he is losing his base, and he knows he has to shore it up big time or the Dems will lose everything. It was a desperate move.

Now the judge has ruled half for, half against. It will be appealed. It will be in the public eye for quite a bit longer. My guess is Obama will lose all his independants, to cement the latino vote. He’s got to be doubling down on a fraudulent, massive influx of votes from illegals and dem machine districts.

It was only a decision on on injunction. She was asked to prevent the enforcement of the Arizona law pending the result of a trial. Even a full injunction, which she did not give, would only have prevented the changes contained in the Arizona statute. Nothing she did changed the status quo in Arizona, or anywhere else.

I meant to add, the injunction is only a temporary measure. Even if it isn’t overturned on appeal, it only holds until there is a final decision in an actual trial.

Bingo...we have a winner.....

"Arizona needs to file a countersuit requesting a writ of mandamus to compel Obama and all subordinate officers of the executive with jurisdiction over law enforcement and immigration to enforce Federal immigration law as written."

Attache a suit of mandamus to each and every illegal arrested and send them on to the feds...

Use Alinsky technique...OVERLOAD THE SYSTEM....
