Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph said that she made a personal plea to President Obama to end the moratorium. She said that he told her "the mood of the nation'' demanded that he take this action. But that's a rationale based on politics, not safety or science.

States need to ignore the federal government. That moratorium ought to mean nothing. The state should do what it thinks is best. AZ and LA could start a trend. Other states should follow. Just secede by pretending that the feds don't exist.
