Uhmm it is an oil well. Has the need for oil abated? So why can they not start pumping oil from this well? Can someone give me a reason not to use the oil from this well????????

I’ve been wondering the same thing...why do we need to permanently kill the well? I thought this was a huge field.

For the same reason they block all U.S. drilling operations, shale oil exploration, and have a bill pending to impose a $2.50 per barrel extra tax on all oil produced in the U.S., but not on imported oil. They have an agenda, which should be obvious to anyone with a functioning brain cell. They must be removed or we are doomed.

The MC252A and B wells where licensed for exploration (wildcat)in order to determine if this site was worth eventual drilling. BP has no right to turn it into a production well.
The oils collected to date and sent for refinement where agreed upon to profit the GOM coast folks. That is. Eventual sale profits of gas etc., refined would go toward the people in the gulf.

erosion in the reservior and of the casing and cement during uncontrolled extend flows carrying sand would make this well a poor choice for any future production.

That doesn’t mean the field cannot be produced from other wells, just not this one.
