A Brutal Killing in Baltimore, and the Blame Game Is On
Baltimore Sun ^ | July 29, 2010 | Ron Smith

If there was any doubt that Baltimore's legal system is a miserable failure, it should have been put to rest with what we've learned about the murder of Stephen Pitcairn. Late Sunday evening, a day away from his 24th birthday and just back from a visit to his sister in New York, he was walking up St. Paul Street from the train station to his Charles Village apartment. As he walked, he talked on the phone with his mother, Gwen, of Jupiter, Fla., who heard him being accosted, heard a male voice say, "Shut up," and listened as her son was stabbed in the chest despite having turned over his money to his alleged killers.

Having one's child murdered is a horror beyond imagining for most of us. Talking with him as it happened is unimaginably worse. Mrs. Pitcairn spoke later to a television news reporter, relating how her son wanted to become a doctor so he could be of help to people with cancer, how bright he was, with a sunshine personality. As you know, that wasn't just a loving mom's opinion; the people for whom and with whom he worked as a researcher at Johns Hopkins corroborated the mother's assessment of her son's character and disposition.

He was filled with "promise," a promise never to be fulfilled because, according to police reports I have beside me as I write, two career lowlifes, "identified as Levelva Wagner (f/b/5-26-86, /ak/a 'Lee-Lee,' and John Wagner (m/b/4-19-76), a/k/a 'Yah-ya'" were out looking to rob somebody, a practice apparently routine to them. The two were arrested with Stephen Pitcairn's wallet and cell phone in their possession. They are being held without bail. And the blame game has begun, because once again a tragic crime has been committed,

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t the perp in this case also to have remarked to friends “I hurt a white boy!”

That was omitted in this article. Too inflammatory I guess.

Let me guess, another black attack on a white. don’t worry, no hate crime and the federal government won’t be investigating it!

If you are white, you ain’t right!

From the article: She is quoted as saying she and her husband (there's some question as to whether they are legally married) had been out Sunday night "hunting to rob someone" and telling witnesses that they had robbed and "hurt" a "white boy."

You missed it.

“the system is OVERWHELMED by the sheer numbers of the criminals it must deal with — tens of thousands of warrants are outstanding — it is clear enough that many murders could have been prevented if more violent predators who've been gaming the system could be effectively prosecuted and put away. But we know, sadly, that as things stand now, that isn't going to happen.”

While tragic and heartbreaking this story is pretty much standard operating procedure in Maryland. The state is run by liberal Democrats who protect bad people and hurt good people and unfortunately they just keep getting reelected.

Government officials (politicians, judges, lawyers and bureaucrats, etc) are always “overwhelmed”. That is their typical excuse and the leftist elitists in the MSM repeat this message over and over again.

By the way, I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard a street punk brag about how he was going to “hurt a white boy” or how had had “hurt a white boy”. That is how these people talk and how they live there lives. That is just the way they are.

Thanks.

From the FBI website:

HATE CRIME

Definition

A hate crime, also known as a bias crime, is a criminal offense committed against a person, property, or society which is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.

Typical...... Unless it happens to a Kennedy, Clinton, or Biden/gore whatever it really isn’t important. Everybody that isn’t in the “ privileged class” is just a statistic. The funny thing is that this family was probably democrat since they live in Baltimore. Prayers for this poor family. And wishes that the perps slowly suffocate

>"could be effectively prosecuted and put away."

Don't we deport felony criminals after their time is up?

Why not dual continentals?

They obviously don't want to behave as civilized Americans, then let them live as uncivilized other continent citizens.

This crime might not qualify in that the murderers were looking for money and the more likely source would be a well-dressed white guy. The description of “a white guy” given by the perps to friends, by itself, doesn’t reflect a bias in their choice of a victim.

It became legal yesterday in AZ to carry concealed without a permit. Suppose Maryland had the same law, and the victim was carrying...OK, it probably would not have helped. Talking on a cell phone while walking in a rough part of town is pretty dumb, but so is living in a place like Baltimore or anywhere dominated by gun-hating liberals.

Sounds like a conspiracy by police, prosecutors, media, and the Federal Government to coverup and lie about a staggering number of undeniable “hate crimes”.

If the law is on the books, enforce it. If not, find it unconstitutional and repeal it.

He's repeatedly been hauled into court for probation violations and each time been turned loose with no change in the terms of his supervision.

Yes, the PO supervises, arrests and hauls the criminal to court. The police investigate and arrest to no avail. It must be really difficult for cops and POs to remain enthusiastic.

Drug addicted scum snuffing out the life of a productive citizen is par for the course in the People’s Utopia of Maryland. One party rule for the past 50 years has permitted the left to infest every last nook of the state’s apparatus: judiciary, prosecution, social agencies, legislature, education, and the governor’s office. The electoral districts are severely gerrymandered. Political patronage and cronyism dominate the ward political machines. The media may as well be state run as it merely spouts the party line and promotes a relentless, liberal agenda. The average citizen is of no concern. The right to keep and bear arms has been so limited as to be absent. Only the “ruling class” elites can obtain carry permits. Thus, Stephen Pitcairn was tragically taken by two career villains, roaming the streets on “parole”. Oh, that poor Mr. Pitcairn had been packing a handgun that terrible evening. He might have compensated, in a muzzle flash, for all the pernicious political calumny that ultimately robbed his life; RIP.

In Maryland, if the white crime victim had fired back....he would have been charged with the “hate crime”

It is the Black Ku Klux Klan mentality among liberals, racists, and unfortunately, apologists in the GOP.

You are exactly right. You cannot classify these predators as humans. The humanity has been bred out of them. It would be more humane to break the cycle than allow it to continue.

Yes it is, but Stephen was walking up a major road and was in what is thought of as a middle class neighborhood, called Charles Village, when he was attacked.

He did not know that marauders choose those neighborhoods, because they have picked clean the rough part of town.

“And the blame game has begun”

Meaning what? That the perpetrators are going to be blamed rather than the victim and that is a real shame in the eyes of this reporter?

When I clicked on a link on the Sunpaper's page about this crime, I found the following news about the stabbing. This has not been mentioned on any of the talk shows in Baltimore that have been discussing this crime since Monday. Now can we call it a Hate Crime!

Homicide in the 2600 block of St. Paul St.
2600 St Paul St
Baltimore, MD 21218
Officers responded to a call of an attack at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of St. Paul St. and found the man in the road, suffering from stab wounds all over his body.

What you wrote agrees with what I had read earlier. Many of the OK neighborhoods in that area are no longer OK.

When I am in downtown Tucson, regardless of the time, I don’t wear headphones and I don’t make phone calls while walking. I prefer to be aware of my surroundings. Nor do I want to blame the victim. You SHOULD be able to walk and talk at the same time without fear of dying. SHOULD.

But I won’t try it. Not in Las Vegas, not in Ft Worth, and not in most other places my work used to take me to...because it isn’t safe.

Baltimore is rotting from the center out. If we did not have the government-grant-supported Johns Hopkins institutions and the University of Maryland Hospital System to be the major employers, the city would have no ‘industry’ at all.

The state is crippled by entrenched crony democrat rule.

Let me guess, another black attack on a white.

For what it's worth, a young black man answered Pitcairn's cries for help, called 911 and friends for assistance, and held him as he died.

You forgot Legg Mason, but most of their employees get the hell out of town once the workday is over.

Almost took a job in Baltimore (actually Owings Mills). Happy that I stayed in NYC and found another job instead.

A damn shame, as I love walking along the harbor when resting between trips up the east coast.

Yes, I almost added Legg Mason to my post, and then thought how long will they still be there.

I’m reading a book about the history of Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point. At its peak, it employed almost 35000 employees. How Baltimore has changed from its roots as a manufacturing and shipping center!
