"There’s a reason that homosexuality used to be a disqualifier for a security clearance." There was a time when you could go to the military shrink and announce your homosexuality and you could get out of the military with a quiet honorable discharge, psych code. It didn't really affect future employment. Back then it would affect your being able to get a service or government job.

I will say what many are quietly thinking, gays don't belong in the military. This don't ask, don't tell was the camel getting his nose under the tent.

So who are these quiet thinkers?

I’m pretty vocal about it myself.

During pre DADT, those investigating individuals for security clearances would routinely ask: does he have any unusual sexual proclivities. Being a fag, if it was believed by the interviewee as such, was an unusual proclivity. Today it would probably lead to the interviewee being called a homophobe.

The rational for the question was simple, those engaged in demented acts were considered a blackmail threat. Today they would probably be considered a hero. My guess is the DOD is probably developing a new ribbon for meritorious behavior to accommodate those previously outed the design of which I will leave to your imagination lest I be banned.
