Memorization. Passing the bar is almost entirely about memorization. And, just because you've passed the bar, doesn't mean you'll be a capable lawyer. Far from it.
Actually practicing law successfully, tests entirely different skill-sets. This is why you'll have people who passed the bar on their first try actually end up washing out of the profession, and you'll have people who had to sit for the bar multiple times, actually end up being competent attorneys.
I would add that to a certain degree, the exact same thing can be said about any professional licensure. My daughter just completed her medical boards, and from what I gather, it too was all about memorization.
