Obama vs the Congressional Black Caucus?
Washington Post ^ | August 2, 2010; 4:44 PM ET | Chris Cillizza

President Obama's relationship with members of the Congressional Black Caucus is being tested over a series of high-profile incidents, the latest of which is the ethics investigation into New York Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel.

On Friday, Obama told CBS News that he believed it was time for Rangel to end his carer "with dignity", adding: "I think Charlie Rangel served a very long time and served his constituents very well, but these allegations are very troubling."

A Politico story quoted a person close to Rangel saying that the congressman "doesn't give a damn about what the president thinks about this." And New York Gov. David Paterson, who is black and whose father came up in New York politics with Rangel, seemed to offer a thinly veiled criticism of Obama in a radio interview over the weekend.

Paterson said he was "especially surprised when people from our own community" jump to conclusions before all the facts have been aired "because we've been the greatest victim of it for centuries." (Worth noting: The White House discouraged Paterson from a reelection bid last year.)

well its entirely possible, its as some of us thought, eventually they would turn on each other, too many power hungry sob’s, they’d turn of their granny’s life support machine if they thought it get them some political capital.

Some folks will never be happy. In a day and age when some folks' fondest of dreams, wishes have come to fruitrion, the realization of the first Black President, it's downright uncanny, surreal to see all this political ugliness, rancor, in-fighting going on like this. For shame.

But of course, somehow, someway racism and 'white people' are gonna be implicated as the source of it all.

I wonder if Bammy is "clearing the field" (old Chicago trick) of black leaders so that when he is either forced out/voted out, he can become THE spokesman for black people in his post-White House career. He sees how lucrative the race pimping business can be and he wants to be the Big Kahuna.

There is enough ammo in the universe. THAT, is what they’re afraid of. That’s the only thing holding them back.

Rangel and Hastings were well-known supporters of Clinton during the primary race, and, according to sources close to the group, there are lingering memories at work in the current relationship.

If you look ahead to 2012 this might be a factor.
