KISS. Keep it Super Simple. Say it directly.
You gave McConnell his best defense possible, but your argument fails. Everyone else here is correct. McConnell is a clueless loser, one of those who've driven the GOP into a deadend.
how can anyone force obama “back to the center” when he has never been there in his enitre life?
Did the Germans just need to force Hitler “back to the center” to avoid WW2?
What is “the center”, Mitch? A nice warm hot tub where old senators put aside their political principles to sit, relax, and pee together?
Poor old Mitch. He just doesn't get it!
He thinks this is politics as usual, and (to paraphrase Bob Dole) it's the GOP's turn again to be the tax collector for the Marxist state, and everybody gets to readjust their tee times and party on with lobbyists.
Hey, Mitch! There's a gulag waiting for America at the end of this road, not some amicable and bipartisan cocktail hour where you and Chuck Schumer can sit around and tell funny jokes!!
This bipartisanship is getting old. If Republicans get the majority, they need to investigate.
I think there is a better chance that he will convert to Judaism and then report to spring training with the White Sox than of this happening.
I don’t want him to go to the center. I want his marxist arse out of office.
Most GOP leaders would clearly prefer the former outcome: it would enable a continuation of their accustomed roles as D.C. Doormats, routinely trod upon of course, yet happily proximate to the halls of power that provide them with a grand sense of importance, without all that troublesome responsibility. Will they still be invited the Cosmos Club for supper, and enjoy lunches on K Street's dime? Naturally; and what else is the point of having attended the right schools and joined the right clubs, and romanced all the right people if you can't grab all the perks you can with both fists?
And what of the "folks" back home, in "the districts" (a phrase I have heard pronounced by politicians with a sarcasm bordering on disgust)? They are angry. They are frustrated. They are frightened. They want their jobs back. They want life to be as it once was, a Life receding quickly in the rear view but still recalled fondly, as the car careens into the darkness ahead.
They want their country back.
And how does the D.C. G.O.P establishment respond to their entreaties?
Screw you, Tea Parties. You don't understand - the economy is just too complex for your little minds to wrap themselves around. So is immigration policy. So go back to yer huntin', fishin', NASCAR-watchin', beer-guzzlin' or whatever it is you knuckle-draggers do on the weekends while we do the hard, hard work of keeping those crazy Democrats from doing even worse things to you than we would, if we were in power. Perhaps that didn't come out right. Look: you need someone to understand the laws and administrative rules that govern you, and thank your lucky stars we do it for you, because you obviously can't be trusted to run your own lives. Just look at the mess you've all made: forcing us spend all that money we don't have and make promises we can't keep. And what gratitude do we get in return? Bahh. Put down your signs and go home, okay? I've got a lunch date with Geithner at 12...
Arrant nonsense. Race is just one item in a tapestry of public issues. Bedford's maxim is about as sensible as saying that all politics is about unions, or zoning ordnances, or blue laws, or abortion.
“McConnell: GOP Must Force Obama Back to Center”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I suggest they start with something easy like forcing Alaskan wolves to become vegans or forcing rattlesnakes to become nonvenomous.
Those are very good points. However, they do run the risk of pissing off the rest of us...you know, those who held their nose but still voted, and those who stayed at home.
I recently had a McCain staffer call me requesting a donation because I supported him in the past. After I finished telling him what I thought, he was gobsmacked!
We did “discuss” comprehensive immigration reform...lol
“GOP primaries are almost finished. It is normal about this time to start trying to draw from the other party and independents.”
Well...things are not normal this time. The indys left Obama long ago. It appears that he’s bleeding dems, too. Kinda like the Reagan Democrats in 1980.
And, yet...the GOP is determined to play nice, and grab defeat from the jaws of victory.
So, what the heck do they think they are going to accomplish with “normal”?
“Theyre not going to run to the party of DeMint, Bachmann and Ryan.”
Their loss...and the country’s loss, as well.
“Its Mitchs job to soften it up and tell Democrats and Indies the GOP is centrist and safe.”
Do you know how many people want the GOP to be “centrist and safe”? Frankly, I’ve had it up to the figurative “here” with them. I won’t donate to them...they are clueless and inept...and, along with Obama, lack Sarah Palin’s cajones.
The DC GOP is nothing but a bunch of spineless cowards. Just look at McCain’s campaign...spineless. He was afraid of being called a racist.
“Look at Obama. The crazies nominated him but he ran as a uniter and a centrist.:
For anyone paying attention, that was just fluff, and the media has carried his water for so long that they are purple and pruney. Now, I realize that most people don’t pay as much attention as those on this fine forum do. However, the “crazies” will not be out in force this time. He’s not on the ballot. Too, he’s losing young people as we speak.
“Like it or not, this works.”
Not this time, unless you consider running your base off again “working.”
Independents shifted from Obama, they didn't leave him. There are plenty more to grab.
Do you see the base running off? I don't. This is bigger than 1994. The base is expanding by the week. It's one thing after the next with Obama. He's pushing Democrats and Independents out. Mitch is the doorman playing nice and inviting them in to listen to Beck and Rush, DeMint and Ryan, Bachmann and Palin.
I'm just not interested in helping the left by going after Sarah, Mitch, "spineless Republicans", "RINOS" or whoever on the right. Place for that is as a part of a primary--by supporting Hayworth for instance.
Really? Do you actually think that I believe that all politics have to do with race? Do you actually think that Speaker O'Neill thought that all politics is local?
My friend, if you allow a little bit for hyperbole you will see the wisdom of Nathan Bedford's Maxim.
Okie dokie! That was a very fine post, and I appreciate the clarification of your thoughts. Thank you so much. ;o) Except for the part about Mitch McConnell. He’s part of the group who believes us to be the Country Class...like Trent Lott. Why would you demean your base unless you take them for granted?
“Do you see the base running off?”
I meant that the RNC has great potential to run off the base like they have in so many past elections...like 2008...2006...and Dole in 1996...like Ford in 1976...they are very good at it.
“...by supporting Hayworth for instance.”
LOL! That is why the McCain staffer was left gobsmacked after their fundraising call to me. I told them that, after contributing to the McCain presidential run...because I contributed simply because Palin was on the ticket... that were I in AZ...I would vote for J.D. Hayworth.
