Commission Clears Way for Ground Zero Mosque
Wall Street Journal ^ | 8/3/2010 | MICHAEL HOWARD SAUL

Posted on 08/03/2010 7:56:24 AM PDT by markomalley

The New York City Landmarks Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to deny landmark designation to the site of the proposed mosque near Ground Zero, paving the way for the controversial community center and worship space to rise two blocks from the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The commission's chairman, Robert B. Tierney, said the building at 45-47 Park Place "does not rise to the level of an individual landmark." The 11-member panel is appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has vehemently defended the mosque as an example of religious freedom.

The proposed community center has become the center of an intense national controversy, prompting opponents to call on the commission to grant landmark status in hopes of blocking the plan.

One opponent sat quietly in the audience holding a sign that read "Don't glorify murders of 3,000 – no 9/11 victory mosque."

As the commissioners left the room, an opponent in the audience asked if any of them had lost a loved one during the terrorist attacks. The opponent urged the commissioners to look into the cameras and "apologize for this disgrace."

"I hope Mayor Bloomberg is satisfied," he said.

Wrong. Bloomberg and these eleven morons surrendered to the moon-god religion created by a child molester.

To the Voters of New York: It seems you have some work to do in getting rid of Bloomberg and this "panel" which surrendered sacred ground to the bastards that attacked us on 9-11.

“Their NAMES....I WANT THEIR NAMES!!”

Their names are “TRAITORS!”

The Leftards need to understand that if they won’t play by the rules, the opposition won’t either.

Islam is not just a religion, it is a religion that weilds political governing forces with the stated goal of dominating the world and subduing the world to be governed by its mandates. We should not be allowing any other governing power, religious or no, to be implanted which intends to subdue our way of life. Somebody with standing please, please make that argument. Does no one see what this portends? Bloomberg, you’re an idiot.

The islamists are doing what they always do. They stake a claim near or at the site of impostance to others and then they ursurp the meaning and effect of going there for non-muslims. Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the best evidence. All we have to do is nothing and they will encroach much further.

Clears the way for the moslem shrine to their victory in taking down the Towers and replacing them with — a moslem shrine.

Just like they managed to get a crescent at the Flight 93 location.

==

Wonder what they would be building on the site that would formerly had been the White House, has Flight 93 managed to complete that mission?

“Bloomers will arrest anyone interfering with the mooslimbs”

Perhaps but I think the NY Tea Party need to get out there, handcuff themselves, and force him to order the NYC Police to arrest them at Ground Zero.

“You are either with us or against us”

The issue is NOT whether the EXISTING building is a landmark. That is totally irrelevant.

The real issue is that the intent to make the proposed mosque be a LANDMARK, a beachhead, a planting of the Islamic flag on conquered territory.

Will the people of New York and the people of the USA allow this to happen? That is what is at stake here.

Members of the Landmarks Preservation Commission

It might be informative to investigate their private bank accounts and see if any of them experienced a sudden windfall any time recently.

That oil money has to go somewhere. It can buy allot of influence.

I do not think that Islam and Christianity can stand side by side in peace. I’d like to think they could, but the evidence is in. Islamic people are not content to live in peace. They push every button of the West they can, constantly.

Make no mistake about it, this is a pecking order type of situation. The Islamacists are asserting their right to be assholes, and so far others are allowing them to get away with it.

When it comes to them erecting a thirteen story building to be a mosque and community center several blocks from ground zero, I don’t see what can be done to prevent it. If we are going to push the equality aspects of our Constitution, how do you stop one religion from doing something that is legal to do?

With that in mind, it is interesting to me that at the same time all sorts of methods are found to prevent Christians from practicing their beliefs in public. Where is their protection?

Where we made a mistake, was when we opened the door to people who do not believe as we do. We allowed people who are at war with us, to move in and set up shop. They do not plan on becoming us. They plan on changing us to be them.

Immigrants have changed. They used to want to be come us, and now they want to change, deprive, insult, and in essence destroy us (our culture).

Sadly, our system is not set up like skin, keeping harmful foreign bodies out of our system. What we are seeing is an invasion that is not repelled by a skin like entity.

And the results are becoming more evident by the day.

Either we stand up and put an end to this, or our system will be irrevocably harmed. IMO, we have seen nothing yet. Wait until the numbers elevate to the point that open terrorism here is impossible to stop.

If we think our rights have been impacted up to now, just wait until then. These days will seem like perfection in comparison.

Allowing people to move here from terrorist states was never a good idea, unless instability and terrorism was the goal. And I’m not convinced it wasn’t. Far from it...

$10 says it won’t get built.

I'll take that bet.

Political correctness and the desire to not want to 'offend' anyone will insure that it goes up.

'Oh, look at how tolerant we New Yorkers are!'

If Bush was going to flat out lie and say it’s a religion of peace, do you really think anyone else in power will stand against it?

Too much $$$. If it had been Sikhs doing this they wouldn’t be getting this much support cause they don’t have any money.

And what happened to hagia sophia. Basically this will turn the ground zero area into a temple mount in NYC. A no-go zone that’ll be used to grow and eventually throw out or kill the infidels. The new ‘mosque’ will become the crying call of victory for islam all over the world. Anyone thinking about stopping it now, or destroying it later, better remember it’ll be about the same as destroying the evil black cube to most of them.

The union thugs in this country are perfectly willing to intimidate unarmed voters at the polls, drive the auto companies into bankruptcy with their greedy pension demands and close the gates of their employers over a few bucks an hour pay increase. How about these same thugs borrowing one of Sarah’s cojones and shutting down this project? I bet there isn’t a stone to be found among ‘em.

In fairness to the commissioners the Landmark case was very weak. They had no authority to rule on use or design or anything like that. They were strictly voting on the Landmark status. I’ve covered hearings like this many times in Boston: plenty of times opponents use a landmark petition to try to stop a building plan they don’t like, but it is usually a longshot unless the building to be demolished has true unique historic significance, which is not the case here.

Blame earlier votes on use/licensing, etc. It was already a lost cause by this point.
