Senate chooses stimulus over border security

The House of Representatives has passed legislation to enhance border security, but it will apparently be allowed to die in the Senate. GovExec explains that there is a dispute over whether to pay for border security or add the money to the deficit. And Congressional leaders ultimately chose to allow the bill to die rather than cut a few million from the ‘stimulus:’

Shortly before heading out for its summer recess, the House last week approved the stand-alone supplemental spending bill, which House Democrats crafted to provide $701 million in emergency border security funds.

Among other things, the funding would pay for 1,200 new Border Patrol agents, 500 more Customs and Border Protection officers, three new forward operating bases and two additional Predator unmanned aerial vehicles. The bill included $201 million in offsets, while the rest was unfunded.

I don't care about military on the border. It's all eyewash as they don't carry loaded weapons.

I want to see more Border Patrol and a real fence.

Say! I have a plan! Hire illegals to patrol the border. They work cheap, they are reliable and they speak the language. The more they catch the more points they get toward citizenship. Drugs get bonus points.

We could then use our border patrol, drones and National Guard to monitor and backup the choke-points to get those who get through.
