Rumors are running wild from Washington to Wall Street that the Obama administration is about to order government-controlled lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to forgive a portion of the mortgage debt of millions of Americans who owe more than what their homes are worth. I've searched for another independent source for this rumor posted on a blog at Reuters, and I haven't found one. Is anyone able to find such? There are a few blog postings derived from Mr. Pethokoukis's blogging, but none so far that stand on their own.

And what of the people who pay their bills on time, or who are underwater but NOT going through Freddie and Fannie?
Bread and circuses, people. Just the first step.

Wow (said sarcastically)...will it be a big success like the Simuli have been...zilch. Or "Cash for Clunkers"...?
This butthead is STILL out tossing taxpayer money around to attract the "moocher" class at the expense of our nation.
Given a choice, I would rather lose my house, than lose my country. In a real America, we can recover from losing a house...but once America is gone, it will be a cardboard box in obamaville.
And doing it right here before the elections is like a husband apologizing to his battered wife AFTER the judge sentences him to jail.

Right into the pockets of bankster investors who profited during the boom, and are being paid off in a bust.
When my investments go down, I don’t get paid off by the government.

How do you suppose all those people who have lost their homes are going to like this??? I, for one, would be ticked.

I am sure this is going to be counted as income for tax purposes.
If these guys can't pay their mortgage, how are they going to pay the taxes?????
Will Obama send 30% of these 1/5th of mortgages to prison for taxes?

That might win him the election (or not) but it would earn him the enduring hatred of the millions of voters who’ve sacrificed to do the right thing and live up to their word. Yeah, take my money to bail out someone who was LESS honorable and responsible. I’m sure many people would sooner cut a guy’s throat for that than look at him.

So how many mortgage lenders and real estate brokers are going to fall to this ax? Zero hasn’t learned a thing. We, The People, have.
Time to take back America!!
We don’t need any more of Zero’s “help,” nor that of Harry Reid.
I warned my son years ago, that when Dems were in the White House, it was tax-and-spend, and somehow, they always managed to set up the perfect conditions for a war.
GR-R-R-rrrrrrr!
Zero acts as if the treasury department is his own private mint.

The Republican response needs to be that "the American people don't want more government handouts, they want JOBS!". Say it loud and often to expose this as the government giveaway of our tax dollars that it is.
I don't think it's going to help him anyway, that's how bad off he is right now.

I do believe at first thought after reading this article, that only the fools that are currently Obamubjects will retain their idiotic adulation for the Soros Pimp, and sycophants this upcoming election.
I don’t think anybody but Obama himself will realize a “bump” out of this other than the taxpayers as they are bumped further into the debt hole from Hell.

That is the pot that the Republican senators wanted to pay for the extended unemployment claims last week. Three RINO’s defected and it is now added to the national debt instead.

If the democrats pull this hypothetical stunt, are we hard working, play by the rules, save and scape Americans going to complain or are we really going to get serious and I’m not talking about another tea party rally either.

Meanwhile, Jerrold Nadler (Blimp-NY) is floating a bill to tax all states that voted for Juan to have their Bush tax cuts expire. Nadler wants IRS to help in yet another income redistribution act.
