Attorneys for a former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse executive are seeking a new trial, claiming the judge who presided over his trial participated in the planning of an Immigration raid at the plant in May 2008.
Sholom Rubashkin was found guilty last fall of 86 federal financial fraud charges and was sentenced in June to 27 years in prison. His attorneys on Thursday filed a motion for a new trial, claiming Chief District Court Judge Linda Reade held meetings with prosecutors as early as October 2007, approved suspect holding proceedings after the raid at a site in Waterloo and coordinated dates for the raid with her schedule. A telephone message left Thursday for Reade was not immediately returned. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office declined to comment.

BS
That raid smelled from the beginning. The judge’s rulings during the trial showed that she was either ignorant or corrupt and no federal judge is ignorant. I am not at all surprised.
I hope that this finally means that, after bringing down the entire Agriprocessors company into bankruptcy, justice finally will come to Sholom Rubashkin.
The reporter as well as the defense team is incompetent.
As a resident of Iowa I have to comment.
The raid was needed. It was well known that this plant used illegals and was flaunting the law to do so. The owner needed to be dealt with as he seemed to feel that it was his right to hire illegals to do the work because it would benefit him and his family. Most of us here in Iowa were sick of this place not to mention that we hope this spreads to other companies here that hire illegals.
I hope they throw the book at Sholom and anyone else who hires illegals to do the work that Americans want to do.
You may not know this, Rick, but the charges against Rubashkin for knowingly hiring illegal aliens were dropped. The apparently-corrupt judge let the charges be brought through the bank-fraud window, which deprived Rubashkin of his right to introduce witnesses about the company’s hiring of illegals.
The state trial, in which he was directly charged with knowingly hiring minors, was based on testimony of many of the illegals, and resulted in his complete exoneration on all charges!
If the judge was conspiring with ICE and the prosecutors, she should be impeached. Perhaps that will be the result after the new trial which I truly hope will occur.
Help Texas watch her borders.
Watch live on 14 cameras and report illegal alien invaders.
Night cams in operation

Does it work? Yes.
Recently caught on cam and reported:
String of illegals running through brush with backpacks
Numerous sightings of boats crossing the river
Numerous vehicles late at night in isolated areas
IMMENSELY satisfying.

Ping...
You are joking I hope. The only justice due this guy is a bullet.
They were deliberately hiring illegals and kids.
Why would someone defend him???
He was railroaded and the court was brazen in its flouting of his due process rights. The company was driven into bankruptcy and he currently is facing a sentence of 27 years. He was found NOT GUILTY of knowingly hiring kids, and in fact testimony came out that job applicants had to lie about their ages because the company’s policy was not to hire them. As for hiring illegals, he never was tried on that charge so never had a chance to defend himself against it.
That is why it is so exciting that his lawyers may have uncovered enough illegal collaboration between the judge and the ICE and prosecutors to warrant a new and, I hope, fair trial.
