333,000 criminals investigated for immigration status...
(Phoenix, AZ) The recent attempt by the state of Arizona to implement a controversial immigration law has drawn attention and concern from critics on both sides of the issue.
What many people do not know however is the fact that 100% of all criminal violators booked into Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jail by police agencies in the Valley are investigated by Sheriff’s officers to determine whether or not they are in the United States legally.
In fact, since the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office began participating in the federal immigration program known as 287(g), Sheriff’s officers have investigated 333,000 criminal offenders and have placed federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds on nearly 36,000 inmates in the county jail.
Sheriff Arpaio says, “I am very proud of this successful program. I really don’t understand what all the hype is regarding law enforcement’s ability to ask people about their immigration status, we have been doing it for over three years.”
Sheriff Arpaio says, “The federal government has recently stated that immigration is a federal issue and that local police should not get involved. I consider the 287(g) program the federal government’s way of asking for help from local law enforcement and I am happy to assist.”
“State and local law enforcement officials have the general power to investigate and arrest violators of federal immigration statutes without prior INS knowledge or approval, as long as they are authorized to do so by state law. There is no extant federal limitation on this authority."

People forget that this judge did not say they couldn’t do what the law already allows them to do. She just said a certain part of this NEW law cannot go into effect until a higher court rules on it.

That’s what I thought she ruled. But according to the moron’s on the left they think she ruled that nobody can check for immigration status.

Yeah, that is what cracked me up about this. If a law is passed that says “if you think someone may be an illegal alien you can verify their status” and someone adds a law that says, “especially if they are wearing a striped shirt” that a judge throws out, it doesn’t mean you can no longer check the status if they are wearing a striped shirt. The existing law still stands.
