It's hardly unusual to hear small-business owners gripe about licensing requirements or complain that heavy-handed regulations are driving them into the red.
So when Multnomah County shut down an enterprise last week for operating without a license, you might just sigh and say, there they go again.
Except this entrepreneur was a 7-year-old named Julie Murphy. Her business was a lemonade stand at the Last Thursday monthly art fair in Northeast Portland. The government regulation she violated? Failing to get a $120 temporary restaurant license.
Turns out that kids' lemonade stands -- those constants of summertime -- are supposed to get a permit in Oregon, particularly at big events that happen to be patrolled regularly by county health inspectors.

Can the libtard states just declare their independence and sink on their own already? /s =.=
I’m all for protecting the public, but charging $120 for a 7-year old girl to run a lemonaide stand or be fined $500 is ridiculous.
I hope that the Libertarian and Oregon ping lists pick this up.
They shut down the Buy-a-Kiss booth at St. John`s Chuch Carnival here this summer for pimpering and pandering, selling their bodies without a license.
What goes on in the mind of these bureaucrats?
.....oh.....never mind......
Never mind that the whole government is totally corrupt in all their dealings, they’ve at least looked out for us by making sure this little girl doesn’t sell lemonade. Never mind that Michelle is off to Spain with her daughter and has taken up 60 rooms at an expensive exclusive hotel, at
least the government has stopped this little girl....
Change the sign to Gay Lemonade
Then she can even do blood screens and even send blood to the hospitals with out any licenses..
But the private business owners that must jump the hoops to obey the laws see insane hypocrisy from a city leader APOLOGIZING -- for health inspectors enforcing code on a woman and child who came from OUT OF TOWN to take advantage of an event.
Now that I think of it, I’m shocked that this is the first such story I’ve read.
So, I guess my trying to operate a Margarita Stand is out of the question?
