Nearly six in 10 Britons would like to retire overseas, making us the most unhappy Europeans about the quality of life in our home country, according to a survey of more than 7,500 people by actuaries and benefits consultants Aon.
Less than half or 43 per cent of Britons said the United Kingdom was their preferred retirement location, with many instead planning to pack their bags and retire to sunnier climes. Among other Europeans questioned, only the Germans (46%) and the Irish voiced nearly as low levels of satisfaction with their home countries at 46 per cent and 49 per cent respectively.
By contrast, Spain (87 per cent) and France (81 per cent) topped the popularity tables when it came to workers intending to retire in their home country, followed by the Danes (74 per cent).
Spain is the retirement destination of choice for British workers, with almost one in four or 23 per cent of those who said they wish to retire abroad identifying Spain as their preferred country. Oliver Rowlands, head of retirement at Aon Consulting said: Cheap air travel and the communication tools available over the internet means that retiring overseas doesnt necessarily mean being completely absent from your familys life, making the prospect of emigration to other countries on an previously unseen scale a real possibility.
There are financial implications that people thinking about retiring overseas need to consider. Cost of living may be higher in the country of choice. There can also be tax implications and healthcare benefits can vary widely for expatriates and this will be a major concern for retirees as they grow older.

Someday, people are going to have to wake up and figure out that political correctness is a nation destroyer.
Spain: Good food, beautiful women, Mediterranean climate.
England: Bad food, ugly women, weather that makes Seattle look balmy.
C'mon folks, is there really a choice?
Don’t forget the Islamifying of G.B.: sharia law is practiced in several parts of the country, and approvingly so by the liberals.
“Overseas” was a bit of an overstatement as regards England and Europe. “Overseas”, in their cases, is more like someone from California retiring to Nevada or Idaho. Not much distance to cover to run home for a visit.
Considering that the UK is leading the West into the abyss of destruction I’m not surprised to hear this.
Meanwhile, a survey shows that expat Britons in Spain are the next most likely to want to return home. Some 37% questioned by foreign exchange provider Moneycorp, said they are considering a move back. They said they are worried about their future as the recovery in Spain continues to lag behind the rest of the eurozone. Many have also been affected by Spains current unemployment rate of 17.9%, since many of the jobs that have disappeared have been in Spains devastated property industry which is traditionally a major employer of UK expats.

As the old saying goes "It's always greener on the other side of the hill"...:^)
Been to both, agree 100%
Yup, go ahead and just run away, whitey. I’m sure the NEXT place you end up will be just swell—until you don’t put up a fight to salvage that place, either.
Vote out the libs, stop hiring the muslems.
And that pretty much says everything that needs to be said.
The Brits have no one to blame but themselves. They got the country that they thought that they wanted. They wanted big government to take care of them from womb to tomb, but the price for such a utopia far exceeds the benefits.
This is more to do with the British love of a good whinge, than any real, manifestation of discontent.
We British love to moan. It’s the only thing (other than football and tea) that unites the English, Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish. It’s our national pastime. It doesn’t actually mean anything though.
So don’t confuse a good old-fashioned moan with any real substance. Some people move away. And many of them come back. Sitting here on this sundrenched, warm August afternoon, looking over the verdant Worcestershire countryside, i’m fully aware that I live on the most beautiful little island on god’s green earth, and have no desire to live anywhere else.
LOL! One of my favorite movies, with Ben Kingsley’s GREATEST performance. Embrace your inner Don Logan to motivate your direct reports folks!
