The problem with all radical organisations is that as time passes they get more and more radical in their goals, and shriller and shriller in their pursuit of them. The commies are very, very good at tacking themselves onto genuine organisations of a liberal tendency, and then subverting them to their agenda.

I remember a friend of mine who went down to the "Greenham Common peace camp" back in the eighties. She was young, idealistic, basically worried about nuclear weapons and their proliferation. She met with a couple of the camps permanent members and asked how the campaign against nuclear weapons was going. These two harridans exchanged glances, laughed, and said "Who cares? That's not what we are here for."

The commies, socialists, anarchists and other radicals don't care a toss about peace, the environment, equality for women, gay rights, animal testing, immigration policy or any of the other "trendy" left-wing causes. Their sole priority is to smash capitalism and democracy, and all of those things are just sticks to beat us with. They ride on the genuine (if misguided) concerns of ordinary decent folk who basically want to see a fairer world. It's rampant exploitation, at its most utterly cynical.
