Breaking news: Handel calls Deal, concedes GOP nomination for governor

Just in from Karen Handel:

I want to thank all of my friends, supporters, volunteers and my campaign team for a tremendous effort over the last 16 months. We ran a terrific campaign, beat the odds to come in first place in the Primary, and came so very close in the runoff election.

As of this morning, we are four tenths of a percentage point behind Nathan Deal with absentee ballots and overseas military votes yet to be counted.

We certainly have the option of requesting the automatic statewide recount. But we are not going to do that.

The best thing for our party is to rally around Congressman Deal as our nominee in the fight against Roy Barnes. Barnes would return Georgia to a past that is best kept in our rearview mirror. We must marshal all of our resources to defeat him.

I spoke with Nathan this morning and let him know that I endorse his candidacy and look forward to the fight against Barnes. I have also called on all who were supporting me to give their same

Nathon Deal is a republican. He also sent a letter to the marxist muslim America-hating illegal alien in the White Hut to cough up his Birth Certificate.

Sounds like the right republican won.

Whoa! Good news, indeed.

Now it’s time to go after Boy Barnes full steam!

This is STILL a good message from the TEA party that the GOP establishment had to fight to get 50% of the vote.

She is doing a class act here.

Gregoire has a support team that's well versed in sucking every last bit of votes out of any election ~ they got that way with practice. Then, when there's a close call in the regular election they know what to do while their Republican opponents stand their with their thumbs in their........

There's nothing polite about conceding an election that you probably won if the truth be known!

I remember when Handel accuse another candidate in the primary race of some wrongdoings, and when it was revealed that there was no wrongdoings, she refused to apologize when asked to do so. I’m glad to see this RINO defeated!

Look, this is a tough call. Republicans are, let’s face it, classier than the morons in the Democrat party.

Nathan Deal, if he wins, is going to owe a lot to the people who supported Handel.

I can’t say I disagree with her actions here.

Please define what you mean by RINO. There's absolutely no evidence that she ever ran as a Democrat for public office, but there is for Deal.

I swear, public and private education ~ or is that "edumacation" ~ in Jawja is falling behind in the basics of "words have meanings".

You don’t sound as if you know much about this race. Handel was not the most conservative and did not have the best chance against the democrat.

The tea party at one time was in the bag for Handel because of Palin, but I know for a fact that a lot of them started doing their homework and switched sides.

It is a very good thing she lost, a lot of liberal heads exploded on Twitter and Facebook - they were pulling for her, as was Soros funded CREW.

Class Act, Girl!!! America is lucky to have you as a citizen and patriot. Your day will come, rest assured!!! Come to think it, we have some pretty amazing, smart women on the team of the good guys. Certainly a lot better then the America Haters, Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Helen Thomas, Maxine Waters, Shirley Sherrod, Barbara Boxer, etc.(Democrat women, disgusting females, no...better yet, disgusting people, as is the entire Democrat Party)

Nice speech. 99% of politicians give the rest a bad name.

Handel ran a nasty campaign, but she's no RINO. Deal had the GA Republican establishment behind him and managed to get only 50.3% of the runoff vote. Deal will probably beat Barnes in the general election, but whether he serves the entire four-year term will depend on how the ongoing investigation into his company's no-bid state contracts turns out.

Why concede? They may put her over the top?..............

Because, yesterday the repubs in GA had a "unity" breakfast and I am sure there was a position opened for her in the Deal administration if he wins.

What is the deal with folks here criticizing races they know nothing about???

Deal voted consistently conservative for the past 17 years. Look up his voting record. He is a former vet, was the one endorsed by GRTL, NRTL, Taxpayers Union, Anti-illegal immigration groups, NRA, Georgiacarry.org. He IS the most conservative of the two.

He was not my first choice (Johnson was the grassroots candidate) but he will be an excellent one to have in our corner against Barnes.

Handel has a campaign finance charge against her as well, so either one would have faced that when facing Barnes

That’s why neither were my FIRST choice, but Deal is a good choice.

So why do Republicans accept defeat with grace while Democrats try to switch a close loss into a win through a corrupt recount process?

LOL!
You answered your own question. Democrats are corrupt.

How low does a Democrat politician have to be to cheer military body counts and bad economic news when Republicans are in charge, and how selfish does a Democrat voter have to be to exchange his vote for the "free stuff" confiscated on his behalf from his neighbors by Democrat politicians?

We're talking worse than just "corrupt".
The whole "Democrat" thing is sicker than any normal person could fathom.

“Handel was not the most conservative and did not have the best chance against the democrat.”

No, she wasn’t the most conservative person in the race. Eric Johnson was. Deal may very well beat Barnes in the general election because GA is a very Red State. But Barnes will beat Deal over the head with the ethics club, and it could become very interesting as a result.

What about Tancredo not bothering to run in the GOP primary, then going 3rd party spoiler and almost certainly handing a win the the dems?

Graceful Republican NOT.

When you support gay rights, domestic partnerships, and support abortions (the GA Right-to-Life absolutely refused to endorse her in this campaign or any other political campaign, then you are a RINO to me. When you vote to give taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood, (over $1 million dollars), that confirms it even more. That is just a start for her.

Sure, Deal was a Democrat, but like President Ronald Reagan, his former party left him, and he had to leave that party.
