Cohen: Don't blame Democrats' losses on race
The Commercial Appeal ^ | 8/11/10 | Zack McMillin

For Republicans, the explanation for their sweep of countywide offices on Thursday is easy: They say they had the best candidates, and voters of all races and political philosophies responded, to at least some degree.

For Democrats, as is usually the case for the defeated, the autopsy of their stunning losses is more complicated.

After a meeting in Washington on Tuesday with House Democrats, Cohen said there is widespread concern nationally about weak turnout everywhere from black voters in 2010. He said that is one reason he will mount a campaign in the general-election contest against Charlotte Bergmann , an African-American Republican who has cultivated the support of members of the tea party movement.

"We talked today in the Democratic caucus about how do we get the vote out," Cohen said. "We need to let people know if they don't come out, that hurts President Obama."

"We need to let people know if they don't come out, that hurts President Obama."

You say that like it's a BAD thing.

You also say it like it's news.

To: GailA; All

Didn’t Cohen recently say that Charlotte Bergmann doesn’t understand African-American voters (even though she is one)?

Blame the losses on the “Color Red” (Commie Red to be specific).

http://www.thegrio.com/politics/memphis-congressional-campaign-shows-limits-of-race-baiting.php

However, to dismiss Steve Cohen as simply any other white politician, incapable of representing black people in Congress, is a misguided and uninformed perspective. Mr. Cohen is a well-known Memphis liberal who has famously written a national apology for slavery and the Jim Crow laws, and received an “A” rating from the NAACP. The New York Times quotes Cohen as stating: “I vote like a black woman. I don’t know the black experience, but I know about being a minority and being discriminated against because of religion.” Voters should take Cohen at his word and examine his record.

I voted for Bergmann.

As a white guy who is a conservative, I KNOW that the future of our movement DEPENDS on people like Bergmann, Marco Rubio, and West.

The GOP needs to go all out to recruit and support black, Asian and Hispanic conservatives and run them for office.

It will not be easy. There is a brave black guy running against Rangel the crook in his home district. Even if he loses, and I pray he does not, its important that he runs and that the GOP supports him. It shows the voters of that district that we CARE and that we have NOT written them off.

For too long the Democrat Liberals have taken the votes of black, Hispanic and Asian Americans for granted and the GOP has written them off as unwinnable.

Black voters in Harlem should be told to look around at their district and their schools and then look at the rest of America. What they will see are the fruits of Democrat Congresses, Democrat Mayors, Democrat Councilmen and Democrat governors. And then they should ask themselves if THIS is what they want for their children. NOW they have a choice.

Only if the conservative movement can actively recruit people from ALL ethnic groups and religions in America does the Constitution and the greatest Republic which ever existed have a chance of future survival.

“We talked today in the Democratic caucus about how do we get the vote out,” Cohen said. “We need to let people know if they don’t come out, that hurts President Obama.”

How to get the vote out...how to get the message out...These people are so intentionally dense they don’t realize that the people have heard the democrat message and either stayed home or voted against them. They are the very picture of tone deaf.

This guy is a major sleeze ball.
Mrs. toast is a flight attendant. A pretty decent looking one. She recently had a flight with this guy on it. He made her feel uncomfortable with a large amount of leering, several double entendr’es, and a creepy chuckle when she asked if she could get him anything. This was all before she knew who he was. She asked another flight attendant what was up with the guy and she said he was some congressman from the Memphis area. Name was Cohen.

I’m a white woman, and I voted for Charlotte, I have her magnetic signs on the car, passed out about 300 flyers in my neighborhood in our 95+ heat wave. We are not the racist, we vote for a person because of their beliefs. Charlotte is not the first black I’ve voted for nor will she be the last. I vote CONSERVATIVE. And if you are a black conservative, you will get my vote.

"We need to let people know if they don't come out, that hurts President Obama."

In other words, they need a personality cult, the obedience to a man instead of the rule of law. God save the Republic.
