Blagojevich Jury Deadlocked on Some Counts
NBC chicago ^ | 8/11 | steve bryant

Posted on 08/11/2010 2:47:03 PM PDT by RummyChick

The jury in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial told the judge Wednesday afternoon that they couldn't reach a decision on a number of counts.

"We've gone beyond reasonable attempts [to reach a verdict]," meaning they can't reach a decision on certain counts.

Judge James Zagel has asked for clarification to see if they have reached a unanimous decision on any of the counts, then proceed from there.

If the jury is deadlocked, Zagel could enforce the Allen charge, which encourages the jury to re-examine their positions and work diligently towards a verdict.

Wow! I could say this surprises me but it really doesn’t. If they’d found him guilty who knows what would happen to the *others*. Too many involved.

Wondering if anyone got to a juror ... we’re talking about Chicago here.

Or member(s) of the jury got wind of the BS and the other evidence that was left out of the trial where they thought other crooks were getting off the hook, and Blago was taking the total fall. As in the glaring example - Barack Obama.

Based on what I know I would have hung the jury for free. I would have refused to convict Blago based on 4 big reasons.

1) The government prosecution wrongly withheld evidence including the presiding judge from the defense by withholding key witnesses.

2) Blago was the patsy to take the whole fall that clearly evolved members of the Obama Administration to likely include Obama that there was a quo pro quo going on between them.

3) The District Attorney is corrupt. He protected Obama. He shut down the wiretaps before the deal could be completely made, and before Obama completely stepped in it.

4) Judge Zagel jury tampered in the beginning of the process to pick members.

Yep. A conviction in a criminal case has to be unanimous.

Of course we dont know what counts the jury is talking about. It could be some of the counts, all of the counts, one of the counts, etc.. But I dont think it’s likely we will have a full conviction here. Sounds like there are a few jurors holding out on some of the charges.

I hear you! I’m not a fan of hot Rod but I listened to updates on The Big 89 WLS and the local news, granted I didn’t hear the whole trial, and I wouldn’t have convicted him either.

I figured he was going to get off on this.

Of course he will, this is the People's RepubliK of Illannoyed. They only convict corrupt Republican Governors (George Ryan) here.

I said it at the very beginning: Blago was going to get off, and be a thorn in the Democrat's side here for the next few election cycles. Won't be surprised if I'm right. This is after all, Illinois. Voters here are dumb as hell.

Remember there are TWO defendants, Rod and his brother Robert Blago, and the jury did not say which defendant they were referring to.

It’s always dangerous to make assumptions about facts not in evidence.

Based on what I know I would have hung the jury for free. I would have refused to convict Blago based on 4 big reasons.

You know it's funny, I made many of these same reasons to my wife a few weeks back before it went to the jury.

The Prosecution hasn't made it's case, it's all innuendo and speculation by the Prosecutor. Fitzgerald tried making his case by piecing together disparate parts of Blago's phone conversations. I'm not so sure the jury is going to buy it. Used to be politicians had to be 'caught in the act' which in this case, never happened. Fitzgerald erred and stopped Blago too soon. The case would've been made had Jesse Jackson Jr. actually held the fundraiser he agreed to for Blago and raised the $1.5 million "asking price" for the Senate Seat.

What the hell, it's an Illinois Jury and as you know (presuming you live here as I do..) they only convict Republican's in this state....

I’m surprised the jury hasn’t acquitted Blago yet!

yeah, what's taking them so long? Sure can't be their "luxury accommodations", free lunch or the "high pay" for jury duty. Sheesh, what they're getting paid daily doesn't even cover PARKING in that part of the loop!!

I say give them one more try at prosecuting him. This time with a new judge that allows Blago to call Obama and the gang to the stand to testify. it’s the only fair way to handle this.

Too many dimmocrats on the jury. They couldn’t vote guilty on one of their own. My God.
