VANCOUVER — A suspected Tamil migrant boat now believed to hold as many as 500 refugees has entered Canada's 200-mile exclusive economic zone and is heading for the B.C. coast.

"We expect it will land either late (Thursday) evening or early Friday morning," a senior federal official said Wednesday of the Thai-flagged ship, the MV Sun Sea.

While Canadian Navy and Coast Guard authorities would neither confirm nor deny the whereabouts of the vessel Wednesday, US Coast Guard Commander Mark McCadden said that the 188-ft cargo ship had been spotted approximately 300 miles off the coast of British Columbia early Wednesday morning.

"We are looking to send a message to these people who are usually (part of) criminal organizations, in some cases with possible terrorist connections in the case of the Tamil Tigers...that we are not going to allow our laws to be broken."

More ships suspected on the way. I wonder if any are destined for the US.

You needn't worry. I'm afraid Canada has made itself the destination of choice for ersatz refugees. We're about 3 times as far from Sri Lanka as Australia is, — yet this is where they pointed the bow of their boat.

Why should they worry, everyone aboard will be in the USA in a short time anyway.

It doesn't appear that they have any idea what they'll do with the ship. Why in the world would they allow it to land? If it has 500 refugees on it, what else could it have on it? They should turn it around and send it back from whence it came.

Thanks, that's how I read it too: no plans.

Without question, it should be sent back, but that's not going to happen. Those people will likely end-up here.

Can’t walk into the US from Australia.

That was one of the most horrifying books ever written IMHO

Every Conservative should read Camp of the Saints. It is by far much more important that Ayn Rand’s polemics or Laura Ingraham’s juvenalia.

And we in the Western world will allow our people to be extinguished whithout so much as a whimper. We are digging our own grave.

In 1950, white people made up about 30% of the world's polulace.

Now it's down to about 6%.

Just bring ‘em on in. We could use some Tamil Tigers - put ‘em in small towns on the southern border. Problem solved.
