Former president and first lady welcome soldiers home at DFW Airport

his was a different kind of shock and awe.

As 145 soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan walked through the double doors in Terminal D at DFW Airport on Wednesday for two weeks of R&R, they were greeted not only by their families, but by some special guests.

Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush joined 33 kids participating in the North Texas Super Bowl Host Committee's SLANT 45 project to give service members perhaps the most memorable moment since the Welcome Home Heroes initiative started in November 2004.

"Today was one of the best, if not the best day we ever had," said Lt. Col. Patrick McAfee, who has overseen the program for the last three years. "It was phenomenal and the bottom line is that these service members had the shock of their lives. Kids being there gives special meaning to us soldiers, and the president and first lady were there just like regular people."

McAfee said that about 40 people, among them retirees and veterans, show up almost daily to help welcome home soldiers with ovations as they depart customs and enter the main terminal. More than 750,000 service members have been welcomed as part of the program, he said, and some purposely ask to reroute their return to the U.S. so they can come through DFW.

Hartsfield-Jackson International in Atlanta is the only other airport with a Welcome Home Heroes program.

Damn, I really miss President Bush. The man was a real patriot, loved this country, and was all class. What a stark contrast to the spoiled, narcissistic Muslim man-child that the left wing media got elected in 2008. I wish George W. Bush could run for a third term. I know its popular on FR to bash the man, and he wasn’t perfect, but we had security and prosperity during his tenure. I think history will judge him to be an excellent president, and a fine man.

I miss him too. We’ve been in such hell that it’s sort of a shock to see W and Laura and remember what it was like to not have an anti-American POTUS.

The article said that there were only two welcome home projects in the US. I thought there was one in Maine. That would make three. Maine, Atlanta and Dallas.

For whatever negative things Bush may have done he has overwhelmingly much more positive actions.

He loved our country, he had respect for those that would die for it, he will have a special place of respect by me.

Sadly the idiot in residence who hates whites and actually anyone else that won’t worship him is the most despicable despot America has ever elected and illegally passed through the process to be POTUS.

For the rest of my life I will continue to daily educate others of who, what and why Obama was shoved into office and the facts of how he failed to qualify, I hope the obots have plenty of stamina and Red Bull, cause its going to be a long bumpy ride trying to chase me down and to silence or re-educate me.

AMEN to that. And, it wouldn't surprise me if at least a few sane Rats (if there are any left) at least privately miss him as well.

That second picture just... I can’t say it. The guy in the white house is such a loser.

Love you, Mr. President (Bush)

what it was like to not have an anti-American POTUS

A shock indeed.

The only time I ever recall Democrats show up to greet our troops was to spit on them, and call them baby killers.

GW Bush has class compared to the nimrod in the W.H. I miss him even though I don’t agree with his open borders philosophy and Laura Bush is very classy compared to BO’s wife MO. MO reminds me of these nappy ho’s.

OMG!!! I was just thinking how great it would be if Pres Bush started doing more of these positive photo-ops.

I know that it is tradition for ex-presidents to stay out of politics out of respect, but there is really nothing against just getting out there and hanging out with the good people of this country.

BTW....when Obama get voted out.....do you really think that he is going to keep his mouth shut? It will be impossible for him to.
