What If They Gave A Sestak Rally And Nobody Came?
WILK News Radio ^ | 8/11/2010 | Steve Corbett

With Democratic royalty in the room, you’d think that the princes and princesses of the party would be in attendance.

But even former President Bill Clinton couldn’t draw the large cast of partisan elected local officials who are crucial to U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak in his bid to become the next United States senator from Pennsylvania.

I recognized only two name brands at Scranton High School yesterday for a campaign rally designed to spur Sestak on to victory. Sestak didn’t even show up. Despite being called to an emergency vote in Washington and do the job he is paid handsomely to do, his absence was glaringly obvious and somewhat embarrassing.

Republicans must have been gleefully rubbing their hands together as they wrote press release headlines such as “Sestak Refuses to Attend Own Campaign Rally.”

Instead, supporters who stood in the sweltering heat and humidity before being allowed to enter the gym were forced to watch U.S. Sen. Bob Casey bound into the gym like he was playing donkey basketball with Barack and torture the crowd with the typically boring speech which has become a Casey trademark. Then Casey had the nerve to waste more taxpayer money by shaking hands after his ponderous introduction of the former commander-in-chief. I’m pretty sure Casey did not take a personal day to show up at the gym. If he did, I’ll issue a retraction.

A week or two ago, Sestak was on Fox with Brett Baier. Baier asked pretty straight forward questions about the job offers.

I have never heard such air-headed, never-never-land answers in my life. As a veteran, I was ashamed that this retired admiral couldn’t tell the difference, not between a yes or a no, but between a “maybe” and an “I’m on LSD” type answer. He chose purple haze each and every time. Timothy Leary’s not dead; he’s returned to possess the soul of the late Admiral Joe Sestak.

He doesn’t deserve to lead anything at this point.

Loved the closing:

Still, with only about 200 people in the room, many of them Sestak staff and volunteers as well as union members in matching t-shirts, Sestak needed all the help he could get.

Sestak still needs all the help he can get.

Yesterday’s lukewarm show of support did little, if anything, to firm up Sestak’s prominence in Northeastern Pennsylvania, where politics is a bare-knuckled free-for-all.

But it could have been worse.

Joe Biden could have shown up.

For the record, Joe Biden managed only a slightly larger crowd in a similar venue in Greensburg, PA two short years ago. Then, as now, many of them were campaign staff and SEIU thugs in matching shirts.

Joe Biden only managed to get a crowd of 300 when he came to Scranton to campaign for Arlen Specter last Spring.

Scranton will still vote for the Democrat. Its just a matter of turning out enough to counterbalance the “T” which will vote for Toomey. (And which really isn’t a “T” anymore.)

This is great:

Bloomberg expected to endorse Sestak

Gives everyone another opening to bring up Obama and the ground zero mosque.
