(The “girl” in question was probably 50 years old!) Of course my GM has been dead for 30+ years - but boy did it make me cringe, even though she didn’t mean anything by it. I’m still not sure why Dr. Laura felt the need to apologize.
It used to make me cringe too. It was the word you heard just before the violence started. It was a vile, nasty word that wasn't to be spoken. Now, I’m desensitized to it. Sadly.
