When stationed in Italy I ran the autostradas around 210 to 230 kmh ..... But when ya got off the autostrada it was back to 60 or 100 kmh which was 40 / 60 mph respectively.

I explored Germany in a brand new Saab 9-5 Turbo. It maxed out at 240 k/h, or 149mph. I was passed by only one car, a Boxter. High speeds are not uncommon but you have to watch for the speed zones.
